So, which one would be best for me? I generally play 60's/70's-style rock both clean and with some overdrive. The vintage reissue toasters would probably be ideal for my clean sound, but I wonder how they sound through an overdrive pedal or through my cranked up Princeton Reverb. On the other hand, intuition tells me the high gains on the 620 would sound good overdriven, but how do they sound played clean compared to the toasters? Other than the pickup differences, the neck profiles on these two axes seem a bit different. I think the 660's wider string spacing might work better for my "sausage" fingers, but perhaps I could adapt to the narrower 620. For reference, my only other electric guitar is a Fender AVRI Thin Skin '52 Tele with a neck humbucker, which has a moderately "thick" neck and I like it.
I must admit, I do prefer the vintage-y looks of the 660 (checkered binding, retro tuners, black knobs, gold plastic... oh, yeah!). But the 620 looks nice, too. Price isn't really a consideration. I am really torn which way to go here, although the 660 is tempting me a little more than the 620. Any insight here as to which one I should get? Please don't say to buy both! Maybe one day I could afford them both, but I can only get one right now. Thanks!
