Nice geetar...it's a pre-Fender, right? Looks kinda strange with a tone knob instead of the mud switch with the Filtertrons. I'm assuming it came stock with Dynasonics installed. Either way, it's a sweet looking Jet. I've already got two Jets, but someone else here might take you up. Good luck.

Pre fender! This was my first Gretsch, and I really don't know much about them, but I've been using this over my lp standard!
I'd really love a 4001 or 4003, but I'm also open to guitars.

I've got a buddy in the market for a Gretsch and he's trying to sell his Rick 620-12.

I believe this is one of the special Pro Jets, made in about 2001 or so. The knob configuration, Bigsby, and humped full fret markers (as opposed to thumbnails) are a giveaway. This is a Korean-made guitar, I believe, as the Japanese Jets in the Professional series all have the fretboard extension as opposed to the flat board. Thus, the geometry of the guitar is of the Pro Jet lineage, not the Japanese Duo-Jet lineage.

It has some of the construction details of the Pro Jet (Korean) line, and the headstock details of the Japanese Terada Professional line. The pickups are FTs, but the Pro Jet line had the chrome Dumbuckers. Retrofitting is a chore, so this puzzles me--most owners don't attempt it.

The reason I'm shape-shifting here, has to do with the price of the guitars, which could be in the $500 range (Korean), or could be in the $1200.00 range (Terada).

The headstock is the same shape as a Korean-made acoustic I have. Cool-looking guitar!

The serial says its from 1995!

yes it is older gretsch about 95 is correct. they made them like this back then. from about 90 to like 99 they had this headstock and all these features.

Well, the vibrato is a USA Bigsby, so if it came stock on the guitar, it's probably Japanese. The Pro Jets all used import Bigses. I'm also thinking maybe the guitar may have been modded somewhere along the line 'cause I can't get my head around the tone knob with the Filters thing. Every Filter equipped Gretsch I've ever seen had a tone switch. The tone pot is for single coils. But I don't claim to be a Gretsch authority, so I'll defer to those who know better.

Early and mid-90s Gretsch reissues had a mixing and matching of eras wrt headstock, pickups, inlays, and control layout. The guitar is nost likely original . I don't recall any of the early Gretsches even having Dynasonics. Also the routing/footprint of Dynasonics and Filtertrons is different. Further Dynasonics do not have a pickup surround. I suppose it's still possible that the guitar was modded, but I would vote for all original. If you want to be absolutely certain, have your friend remove one of the pickups to check if the routing is all original.

Sorry for the confusion :oops: ; I meant to say that I don't recall any of the early Gretsch REISSUES having Dynasonics, meaning early to mid-90s Gretsch reissues. I know that early Gretsches from the 50s have Dynasonics, as do the current mid 50s era reissues. :D I'd played through one of the early 90s (90-91)reissue Silver Jets; It was equipped just like the Sparkle Jet, except that it had a "G" tailpiece instead of the Bigsby. I was, and am a big fan of Billy Zoom, who has a Dynasonic-equipped model with the small headstock, so I wanted one just like his, or as close to it as possible; when Gretsch reissued a period correct `57 Silver Jet-pickups, contol layout, headstock, I ordered one in a hurry!
