Thanks you guys; Peter, Brian, and Jake. It's folks like you who really make this the fine place it is. I've hung out on other forums, and this really is the best I've experienced.

I believe that one of the posters in the RIC thread had either been suspended or banned by this board for a few nasties he hurled in my direction. Me of all people.
At any rate I'm glad it the thread is gone from the RIC website and I for one am indebted to Peter and all of you fine people. It is sometimes mind blowing to think that a forum would allow so many of us from points near and far to converse with each other over some of the things we love and hold most dear. Not to mention my Rick collection has grown by leaps and bounds because of this group. You can't ask for more than that.

Got to think you're right , Brian. Took a while for me to recall this person ('06 comes to mind), but the poster I think you're talking about had a condescending attitude towards a number of people and an argumentative attitude towards everything else.simer4001 wrote:I believe that one of the posters in the RIC thread had either been suspended or banned by this board for a few nasties he hurled in my direction. Wow, it's only 7:45 pm central time, and the links listed go straight to a "forum is not a customer service" statement. I believe the "powers that be" on both forums look out for each other to keep the peace amongst the enthusiasts. I do see a lot of unnecessarily negative comments made about products that RIC has issues with, where as folks here feel free to discuss any aspects of their gear and accesories.
I understand the RIC site in not wanting to have certain things on their site, but some of the overly dramatic statements made by some over there are really laughable at best. I can see those same types of people slagging the RRF out some misplaced feelings of rejection, or just pure snobbish elitism.
We have all kinds here on the RRF, but the bottom line is we take all at face value and welcome with open arms. You really have repeatedly do really awfull things here to get banned, and usually just get edited if you cross the line. I know, I've unintentionally done it a few times.
This is definitely the most friendly, family type forum I've ever been on, and have made many good friends from around the world that I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet. For this, I am truly gratefull, thank you all.

Visiting the RRF is like puttin' on your fave faded jeans and sweatshirt. It's just a comfy place to hang out. Ciao for now.......Goofyfoot.

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.
Re: RRF Coming under fire
It's just my personal opinion, but if someone starts whining about pecadillos, on another site, then maybe they're already disqulaifing themselves for having membership granted. This place is remarkably free of slings and arrows, and I hope it stays that way.

Re: RRF Coming under fire
i ran into some rather unpleasant ranting over on talkbass as well concerning rrf and john hall. i can see where people might get cheesed off about some things, but this seemed a bit excessive, with someone claiming their first amendment rights were being violated.....
bottom line for me is that this is the place to be for anything rickenbacker,i enjoy the spirit and comraderie here, and will occassionally lurk on the corporate website, which actually seems to get about as much dissension and criticism posted as here. this is also the first time i have really tried to be a part of an online community,so you tend to learn "internet manners" as you go.......

Re: RRF Coming under fire
I didn't get to read it (which is just as well..) looks like Admin over there (JH ?) locked the thread to squash the trash talk.
Re: RRF Coming under fire
well I guess you can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but not everyone all of the time.... if someone has a problem with the way things are done on one venue they could always start their own forum. If participation becomes huge, there may be some basis to it - otherwise WGAS. I don't think there would be a ground swell there at all..... some folks really need a hobby!

Re: RRF Coming under fire
Not sure what that "Amen Corner" thing is supposed to be referring to, and I suspect it's meant that way.
The thread could have been killed by any moderator. There are at least three of us who are moderators at RIC, who also post here. My own feeling was that it should be killed by one of RIC's own moderators, and it did go down within an hour of my own visit and post. Kris Lyons and I each took the poster to task, point by point, and in a restrained manner, before the thread disappeared.
The thread was nearly 4 years old, and simply began with a harmless reference to having been unable to get onto the RRF, during one of the few times that it was inaccessible back then.
Somebody resurrected the thread, and it was at that point that a lurker there (only 25 posts, I believe) jumped in with some nasty insinuations. Things heated up very briefly with rumors and some chatter before it was shut down.
The folks pushing the rumors were not well-informed in any sense of the word, just out to cause others grief. Of course, everyone's got an opinion, but the two Forums involved are privately-moderated and entitled to censor wherever the owners/moderators deem it appropriate. Anyone who wants total freedom of speech can join an unmoderated forum or start and pay for their own.
All things considered, this place is friendly, generally helpful and upbeat, and feels like home--a place where it's comfortable to hang one's hat and rest, with minimal concerns about defending onesself. Whether it's because we are grown-ups or merely act like grown-ups, doesn't matter to me.

I got enough stress in my life, I don't need to see it here!
