All sides need listening to . You cant get anywhere or get anything done in life without speaking your mind sometimes. That being said , There are times when all points no matter how moot or valid need to be addressed .I have been floating around for awhile watching things on this forum and quite frankly wondering if i should join at all considering what ive seen in the opinion squelching that does go on here . I decided to join because of the information and tech knowledge . But other than that :? :? :? :?

"Opinion squelching"?
Well, that must be a subjective term, because in the 4+ years I've been here, any opinion is welcome as long as it is discussed with respect to the RRF rules.
It's really quite clear, to me.

I submit myself to your mercy as I may have been an unwitting participant in that thread. I had some difficulty getting my registration squared away here and I couldn't seem to make contact with a moderator. I saw the resurrected thread over there and mentioned my problem in the context of " is the RRF down or am I doing something wrong?" As most of the folks I've talked with over there seem to know what's going on over here too, I was hoping somebody could fill me in. Then some of the posts started to get a bit ugly after that. Anyway, Gil Disatnik saw my post and contacted me via email. He got me all squared away over here within a day.
Regardless of which forum does what, it seems they both cater to the same group of enthusiasts with a common interest. That in itself is way more positive than negative! The last thing I want in my leisure time is more stress and squabbling...I get enough of that in my day job! I deeply apologize if I in any way caused that thread to rise from the dead and turn ugly.
Thanks Gil for all your help and I'm glad to be aboard.
Best,
AJ
Hey AJ and welcome! Good to see you here and I am glad I could help.

Actually, the fact you and your post are still here is a testament to the fact this forum gives you freedom of speech as long as you don't insult anyone and follow the (pretty simple) rules.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Well, apparently I missed the posts which seem to have drawn so much attention. Just as well, and I am not going to waste my time looking for them. As a previous writer suggested, I don't think there would be any problem in expression an opinion on this site, or on the corporate site, so long as you do it in a respectful way. I have never seen any opinion 'squelched' on either board. I have, of course seen threads disappear when they drifed off-course, or delved into issues which were inappropriate. I think the official RIC forum and the RRF forum complement each other quite nicely, and the level of discourse is normally both informative and polite...........not like the flame-throwing nonsense which is encountered in so many other places.

I would say that at times the RRF displays many signs of 'groupthink', despite the best intentions of its members.

I have noticed that, to a varying degree, on almost every forum I've seen. It seems logical; people with a common interest, enough in common to subscribe to the same forum where much of the discussion is agreement. Not all of it, but it could appear that way to a newer subscriber.

It's our own form of "corporate culture", noticeable in any organized group we join.

It's usually the result of the attitudes of those "at the top". Though the term has taken on a negative connotation (as in, "that place's corporate culture is dehumanizing..."), it can be equally positive.

In our case, the man at the top (Peter) is quite even-handed and objective, once you consider our "mission statement" and (for lack of a better term, darn), forum rules. We're not unmoderated, but evenly moderated. I try to remember that we're here primarily to chat and support each other, with our common bond being these terrific instruments. This leaves us open to criticism as being a "fanboy" site, but nothing is gained by taking a negative tone or spreading malicious gossip, nor do we accomplish anything by personal attacks.

I return for cameraderie and to add to my incomplete knowledge of Rickenbacker history, technical knowledge, and lore in general.

Thanks for participating in the forum Ronald. However, I can certainly help you with your request to have your account removed and I will do that immediately.

I dunno why i still hang out here from time to time, but there must be some reason. Seven letters: friends. Six letters: people. Three letters: fun. Even if i've found only one friend here, it was worth it. And every minute of fun gives one 24 additional hours of life.
This forum is popular and populated, and unfortunately, dislike goes "hand in hand" with popularity. Like, if something is loved by many, there'd be those who'd hate that something. Simple as that.
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.
