Pity Ron... Communities need a voice (or two or more) of dissent. Just 'cause it seems that everyone disagrees with you, it doesn't mean you aren't making an impact or a contribution. The fact that attention to specific sensitivites and the need to keep discourse within reasonable standards of civility can result in what some see as "censorship" shouldn't discourage a bit of forthright expression.

It's sad that we'll never know what your contribution may have been....

Evan you are quite right in that no one here ever objects to a different point of view so long as the poster observes common courtesy and remains objective. We have had several very recent examples of this type of participation being successful in fact, as some of you who contributed to or who read the global warming thread can attest.

It just might be far more telling to watch what those folks post on other forums...

We all fit someplace. And even then, in some cases, we ebb and flow. People with an obvious negative presence and/or misfit agenda, don't last long on a Forum that's as lively and well-modulated/moderated as this.

Oddly, to a great number of musicians, Rickenbacker enthusiasts are perceived as "snobs". I have always put this down to a sort of xenophobia, based, as is most xenophobia, on ignorance or fear of the unknown. To many, there's an almost impenetrable mystique about the instruments we've come to know and love so well.

I think this Forum seems that way to a lot of non-members, probably as an offshoot of the same xenophobia. As to why some choose to take out their frustration or unease in a destructive way...that's the way some folks who are more maladjusted than the rest of us, get their rocks off.

Ironic observation: Many unlikely-looking people come to the Rickenbacker booth at NAMM. Talking to some of them, I noticed the words, "relaxed", "restful", "less hectic", used to characterize that small piece of real estate in the midst of Type "A" hype and chaos.

This place has a similar effect on my own temperament.

Sometimes people are offended when others do not agree with the manner in which they express themselves. We do our best to listen carefully to what others have to say and to iron out honest differences of opinion when discussions become heated. When posts become increasingly rude and insensitive, however, they take on a life of their own with posturing often times being more important than content.

We cannot be all things to all people. We do what we can to understand those with different views but it is apparent that understanding is simply not enough sometimes. The angst experienced by some is readily apparent from their earliest posts. For those who leave we wish them well and hope that they find a place where they are comfortable.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Wow! I go away for a week end of camping and look here what happens. Sorry to see Elnjaybass leave. I guess that's the way life goes sometimes.

On the other hand I'd like to offer a neighborly welcome to AJ.

As to Paul W's comments on the alleged, or perceived Rick "snobbery" maybe I ought to take my time digest his comments and post my thoughts on that and start independent thread. It was interesting to read them, Paul. Thanks.

That's a correct answer Brian! :D You win today's star prize: a year's free subscription to the RRF!!!!! (cue rapturous applause)

It's also the final message the dolphins leave mankind prior to evacuating the doomed planet in "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy". In Adams' universe, man is the third most intelligent species on earth, behind dolphins (the second most intelligent) and mice.
