Or at least move a few more of the sections into the members only mode like the market place section.

In general, I don't really care if most of it is publicly readable, having a lot of this information available to anyone is a great service to people interested in Rickenbackers. I'm not sure I like the google, yahoo, etc. bots scanning and recording everything for the world to easily search. In my mind, this seems to be something of a security risk, or at least a privacy risk. For example, many of us talk about the instruments we have, posting pictures, etc. Yes, this is publicly available on the forum, but unless someone knew to look here, it would be difficult to find. With the search bots collecting all this info, all one has to do is search on someone's name and they can easily find out about these things.

Granted, this information collecting goes on all over the internet and there's precious little one can do to stop it, but on this forum, since we all have our real names, it makes it just a bit more personal and really does create a privacy problem. That said, I do understand and agree with the reasons for having real names. It just gets a bit scary when all this info becomes so easily searchable.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

You'd get no argument from me if the forum went this way.

You do, nonetheless, raise a most interesting point about a members only forum.
Peter, ultimately this decision will rest with you as to whether or not to go private, but I would like to offer an ear and what little brian (brain!) cells I have left in a constructive dialogue....if you're wanting feedback....just PM me if you'd like or we can keep it on this thread.

I'd have to read the terms and conditions, first.

Please do not consider that the members only forum is a done deal. It is simply one of many options available to us as we move forward. Let the discussion contine.

I not sure I would want to join any club that would have me as a member.

I've been saying this for years. WHICH, by the way is THE reason you don't see me posting pictures of my guitars very often. To me, it's like advertising for unscrupulous eyes. This is Peter's baby and I abide by his rules, but if I had one wish MEMBERS ONLY would be great. NOT that you can stop everyone who has bad intentions, but I'm sure it would curtail many.

I even had a situation not too long ago where the Police DID have to get involved because of information obtained on the web. A report was filed and is still active. I can't go into more specifics other than that.

THIS is my forum home. I love this place despite the squabbling. I enjoy the contributions from JH & Company. SOME call it a@@ kissing, I look at it as if JH (or ANYONE from RIC for that matter, ROSIE INCLUDED) was a GUEST in my HOME, how would I treat them? It took me a while to understand this, but this being my first forum experience...well, I'm a slow learner. How would any of us react if people were insulting or bad mouthing what one of us did at work in a public place? Not to mention the ramifications to a companies reputation that constant dissing can do.

Peter enforces COMMON DECENCY & RESPECT towards ALL our guests. I'm here more than ANY other forum. I've registered to a few others, just so I can see classified ads and such, but my TOTAL posting count on ALL the other forums is about 1% of my posts here. This is my home, the friends I've made here are amazing, the generosity extended to me is humbling, the knowledge I've gained is boundless....long may this forum continue. I miss those who have left, I have hopes that one day they will return but look forward to those I've yet to meet.

THANK YOU to ALL the mods who have a VERY unpopular job walking the line and making this place the example it is.

I can go one either way with it, but if by going 'members only' rids us of the bots, then I'm all for it. I consider this more intrusive than anything else.

Due to a somewhat unrelated incident, I've already decided to stop posting, and I've asked Peter to remove my moderator status, but I'll break my new silence to say I may consider continuing to participate, at some point in the future, if the forum goes members only, as I think it's a good idea.

Just a general comment. Please don't read anything else into it. If you are a facebook member you are most likely just as much at risk of your information being available to anyone who wants to find out about you as you are here and in some cases more so.

Agreed Brain,

But on Facebook, you can RESTRICT who can see your information. You can set the privacy level to FRIENDS ONLY, FRIENDS OF FRIENDS OR EVERYONE.

Also, changes in spelling, and the amount of information you provide can be altered at any time.
