I don't know why people insist on butchering good Rics. My bass has the Seymour Duncans installed by previous owner but those were made for the ric and fit the standard routing. But to each his own if its stil $1.25 when the auction ends I will buy it!

Could roundwounds on a 4001 cause/exacerbate that?

Well, at least you wouldn't need to remove the strings in order to clean the fretboard.

That's a shame. A perfectly good 4001AZ reduced to scrap value.

And I'll bet his plan to spend a few hundred bucks to get a "totally awesome, one-of-a-kind sound" didn't quite pan out as he had hoped in the first place.
Re: Like action "jusssst a bit high"?
I'm with Eden, that much string height is from more than a high bridge. It ain't cranked up that high. That extra neck rout has weakened the joint. I would think it would take a full maple plug routed in and then a minimal rerout for the RIC pickup.
Re: Like action "jusssst a bit high"?
I still say the bridge is up high on longer screws; you can see way underneath it to the mounting screws for the tailpiece, something I can only barely see on one of my four Ricks.

Thats not original paint.. have a look at the closeup of the neck/body join.. That looks like some terrible masking, its all wobbly..
Unless someone had a bad day at the factory?!

The paint looks okay, I think you are just seeing reflections of the binding as something it's not.

Dunno, I grabbed this off the auction..jps wrote:The paint looks okay, I think you are just seeing reflections of the binding as something it's not.

Look at the paint along the fret board edge.. looks like bad masking, look at the finish on the horn near the binding, the binding is cracking the finish. Look at the finish where it meets the body, looks really thick..
Sure.. I could be wrong..

Russell I believe that you are being overly critical.
