That's what I was thinking, yeah. Though I'm not sure that full-on bass and full-on treble would sound very good either!

Well I do consider cutting the cap to be sacrilege (so you know my feelings on treble!) but still I typically like 100% bridge and about 85% neck. All or nothing doesn't usually work I agree!

Thank you all very much for the warm welcome! It's a shame to hear it's unlikely for there to be a new 4005. Maybe Rickenbacker will be persuaded in the end. You never know. In the meantime I'm going to set up a 4005 fund and maybe be in a position to realistically search for one to buy in a couple of years. I'm worried now I'm on Rickresourse I'll see one come up and miss it! Thanks alot to all of you for your input.

I own the 4005WB Berth talks about. I think it sounds boxier and woodier than a 4001 in real life, but Berth has proven with his recording that it's close to a 4001.

Big basses look good on small girls;) My girlfriend always plays an Epiphone Sheraton and she's know around here as the tiny girl with the big guitar:)

But a JCS is no bad bass. I think it's one of the best sounding basses you can buy at the moment, surely in that price range. And it's a good looker! On varitone position 1 it's a bit 'Jazz Bass', but on 3 it's FAT ! I used to have one and it's great. Other nice basses are the shortscale Epi Rivoli and DeArmond Starfire reissues. Take a look at them too.


A couple of years ago an friend of mine used to own a gorgeous Burgundyglo 4005. It was the first time I saw that bass and like you I didn't know it excisted.... It was my dream bass immediately and two years later I had this bargain.

The best thing to do is save your dollars and get a 60's 4005. I'd love to hear a 4005 with the bridge pickup and full on amp treble playing "The Seeker" by the Who.

I've been toying with going to TI flats on my 4005. Problem is, at that point I've committed my main bass to being full-on THUMP and not GANK.

Which of course is why I need to get my 4001 up to 100%, as the GANK is just as desirable as the the THUMP.
