Has there ever been an ORANGE Rickenbacker bass?

Post by Spanky(Andy) »

Just biding my time, looking for the right Rickenbacker to present itself (missed out on the 4004 Larado :( )... and wondered if there had ever been an orange coloured Ric bass? Original or refinish....

Cheers

Not that I know of . . . yet. When I asked Paul W. for color suggestions when he was enlisted to refinish my old '72, one of the color chips he sent me was "Tangerineglo" and it was attractive. But I went with the berry burst color I call "Mink." He may have finished a bass in that color, but I don't know for sure.

The closest thing to an orange Rickenbacker bass that can recall is this one-off in "Honeyglo" that RIC sold on ebay about a year ago. Like the recent ebay one-off bass offering, it was constructed using "old" birdseye 4002 body wings with checkered binding. I don't think there will be another one of these coming off the production line anytime soon! I like to think of it as a Halloween special in "Pumpkinglo" with black trim.

Hi Paul,

Tangerineglo? Oh wow.... I wish I could see that one on a bass. It sounds wonderful...

Are you still involved withthe Rickenbacker bass book?

Best regards

Ron,

OMG the "Honeyglo"/"Pumpkinglo" bass is to die for!

What a beautiful finish... good thing I never saw that one when it was on the ‘bay… I would have sold my soul to get my hands on it… :!:

Sincerely

Andy

Some years ago, there was an orange/copper refinished bass on eBay, metallic/metalflake, IIRC ... there might be a very old thread about it, as I do remember it being discussed.

I did a quick search, looking at the oldest hits first, and found the one (from 2002!) that I was referring to:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17202&p=17215&hilit=+copper#p17215

That thread also includes a picture of the bass in question.

Andy, yes, I'm the one "involved" with the Rickenbacker bass book. It's a slow go, but I'm a tortoise. Someday . . . .

I remember that bass, Gary and was going to mention it...before I read down to your post! But you did one better by finding a photo of it. Nice work! I remembered it as a V63, but its a 4003S with a toaster. It was for sale pretty close to Halloween too, as I remember!

I also understand there is no backlog on these CGI basses and that they can be created almost instantly in any color desired! Way to go!

Yeah, but they have a really lousy, sort of synthetic sound...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Orange certainly gets people's attention. I have a whole room full of beautiful Rickenbackers and everyone who comes in always goes straight to this cheap Takamine!

That certainly is a nice quilted maple! But what are those parallel lines on the fingerboard for?
Can we have everything louder than everything else?
