Post by ricnbacker »

I received a Rickenbacker Strap as a stocing stuffer for Christmas.

Tried it and didnt really dig it.

Tried it again tonight and still feel the same way.

Who has one and do you use it?

I use a Couch Guitar Strap, actually. A red "Racer X" made from vintage vinyl. It's great and matches my AFG 4003FL really well.

I've heard they are pretty good with guitars, not so much with basses, too thin and maybe short, I guess, although I haven't even seen one in flesh.

I spent a great deal of time at a GC shop choosing my strap, I wanted a confortable leather strap that would match my FG as well as my other bass which is cheap black and red airspray paint.. Finally I found a bordeaux one which is crazy... Straps are an important part of your playing, don't use it if it's not confortable for you... just my opinion...

Cheers!

I really like the Gibson leather straps.

They are a bit hard to find (here), but the are wide, comfy, and fine after a bit of wearing in!

I use one for bass. I like the looks too much and when carefully placing the cushion part it's not such a pain in the as^H^H shoulder.

I have a burgundy strap that I use occasionally. Most of the time, I use one of three El Dorado straps.

I've got two or three Rickenbacker straps and several more of the same style; I dig 'em. They were a little stiff when I got them, I think I put them in the dryer to soften them up a bit.

I don't like the Rickenbacker strap. I really dig the Couch straps.

I'm not a big fan of the Rickenbacker strap either. I had a very cool custom strap made that looks like the one McCartney is wearing in this picture. Very soft leather and very comfortable.

Is there not some kind of metal buckle on the Ric strap?

I saw a picture, and was a bit worried about getting one because of the potential damage to the bass!

Oh, and the price - over here they sell for about £25 ($38)!
