I had stacks of 45s, mostly with an Apple label, but this was my first album. Purchased in 1973 for $4.77 at the K-Mart on SPID in Corpus Christi,TX. A fortunate purchase, I became a huge fan of Elton's bass player, Dee Murray. It was listening to his playing, and looking at the cool basses in the liner photos of EJ albums(hey, I was in high school), that pushed me to become a bass player myself. And, as some here may know, I purchased one of Dee's basses from his widow a few years back, a very proud posession, all of which started with this LP.

Is Rolf Harris the guy who did "Tie Me Kangaroo Down"?

I think that would drive me into a homicidal rage quicker than any Black/Death/Thrash Metal.

Wow, Tubular Bells, the quickest way to get my sister to run screaming out of the room. I have that on cassette, really a cool recording. I wonder if Mike ever imagined that song being forever linked to one of the most disturbing horror movies of all time.

There was a small pizza place where I grew up that had a jukebox with the 45 version of that song, as well as Bohemian Rhapsody. When my friends and I used to hang out there,we would play those 2 over and over again. Great memory.

I'll really have to dig in the old noodle to figure out what was the first record I bought.

Don't Shoot Me... was my second album, IIRC. The first was Loggins & Messina in late '72. I started out collecting 45s and didn't get to albums for about a year.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

Yep , that's him! Thank the Lord for the Beatles. But,...when my parents relented and said i could have a record for an upcoming birthday, i asked for, of course, a Beatles album.
I got....."Gunther Norris plays The Beatles on piano"!!!

The first record I stole was "It's A Gas" By Alfred E. Newman. Yep, ripped it right out of the Mad Magazine on the magazine stand.

It was the only thing I've ever stolen. I've had a lifetime of remorse and mended my ways.

Well my first album was Magical Mystery Tour. I don't know why...I wasn't a big Beatles fan. I think I got it because the cover looked cool. Someone in the family was ordering from some record club and I picked it. As far as my first album I bought and payed for?.....That would have been Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland. I still have it too!

I certainly hope you still have MMT also!

Strawberry Fields
Penny Lane
I am The Walrus
Baby You're a Rich Man (listen to how deep Macca's 4001 bass sound is; fantastic)
All You Need is Love

Great Stuff. But Electric Ladyland as a first purchase. My hat's off to you sir.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?
