Don't use effects too often, but this one's never steered me wrong:

Sick fuzz. Quite nice for guitar as well.

I dont use them often in a band setting but I have the EX bass big muff and a Digitech auto synth wah that I like fooling around with when I am alone. The Big Muff is usable with some Cream or Black Sabbath tunes to get a nice overdrive/distorted sound.

The Digitech produces some wild *** sounds

I like just about everything ART (Applied Research and Technology) used to make. For compact multi-effect pedals, the Phat Boy and X-Treme Plus can't be beat.

Dane, I was looking at those before I got laid-off... when employed again will have to look harder at them. For now I find the SansAmp and good ole MXR Distortion + work.

I think the perception with ART is that they are outdated, but they really aren't. I've managed to collect all they're stuff for super cheap. I got a Phat Bass a few months back for $18.00 because the guy was using the wrong adapter and thought it didn't work. I picked up a BCC unit for a little more because the battery for the memory was dead and again, the guy thought thee was something wrong with it.

+1 on the Bass Drive! Here's a clip of it on my 4008: tardis pedals - it's actually the distorted sound mixed with clean.

Used to use the SansAmp bass DI but didn't like the way it cut the midrange. I have an original SansAmp with the presets that I occasionaly use for overdrive and a 70's EH Memory Man that I sometimes use as a preamp.

Nowadays I'm experimenting with a Boss FA-1 FET amp - seems to widen the "true" frequencies that my basses produce but I need more time playing with it to learn more.

dane- i think you're right about the art stuff! i like the amount of features the phat boy has (stereo outs/compressor limiter/eq/drive/efx) but i think one reason they were never as popular was that all the effects are pre-set,which as little as i like to fiddle with dials and knobs actually appeals to me. i put mine up for sale a while back-there was zero interest,i am relieved it didn't sell....they do sound great, and its now my only pedal.

But I'll bet you could get greater heights with pedals like these:

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
