My 4004 - continued...
Also, I figured that "while I was in there", I'd make a few other changes. I'd heard that HB-1's sound a lot like toasters if you run them single coil, I like to run each pickup through a different amp, so it needed a stereo output, and I'd heard the tone circuit on a 4002 sounded good (though this is more due to the placement of the pickups on the 4002).
Making these changes wasn't too hard, but in the event that I ever wanted to run mono, not having 2 jacks was a problem. Easily overcome with a switch, but where to put it? The same with the single coil mod, I didn't always want to run single coil, so I needed a switch, well 2 actually, one for each pickup. And then there's the 4002 inline cap, I didn't always want that on both pickups either, so, 2 more switches. Wow, 5 new switches! Well, this bass is a thing of beauty and I absolutely hate mods that aren't reversible, so how do I add 5 switches without messing things up?
On the back, of course!

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

It does sound pretty sweet! If I ever get out your way, I'll bring it along. Maybe some day I'll get a recording made & put up...rickenbrother wrote:CJ, I'd love to hear, maybe even play your Cii someday!!![]()
I might be willing to trade it for a certain fretless, though I doubt you would...

Believe it or not, I kind of find that a little bit tempting. If that ever happened, you'd see your ex-Cii with yet another modification added to the cool mods that you've already done.cjj wrote:It does sound pretty sweet! Joey, I didn't know you have an 4003MG. Very nice!rickenbrother wrote:My November babies:

My November baby, once again, but I'm not sure I've put it here in this configuration:
Re: Commemoration - Your Guitar's Manufacture Anniversary
Thanks for the post, CJ. I actually like the Azure color on that '76. If I had a vote, I'd say keep it that way! Given that, I have to say that your new Mapleglo is AMAZING. Awesome flame to the wood, and great idea with the stack knobs. I'd more-than-likely do the same if I ever acquire a 4004.
Re: Commemoration - Your Guitar's Manufacture Anniversary
If (when?) i refinish the '76 Azureglo, it will be the same color. Mostly, it would be nice to fix all the chips and such. Someone tried to cover them up with some sort of darker blue. I've considered mixing up some enamel paints and trying to fix the chips (as suggested by Paul W.), but there are a lot of them and some are fairly big. I think it would be nice to add checker binding too, but that's a lot harder to come by...

So here we are in the very last month of the first decade of the "New Millennium." Hard to believe we're almost upon 2010!
Any December birthdays to wrap up the year?

My 620 WHT/BTBH was born this month in 1989. All I have is this group shot, though:

Cool! Congrats on the big 2-0. Nice looking group o' axes.
Re: Commemoration - Your Guitar's Manufacture Anniversary
Thanks, Mark - you gave me a nice lead-in, too.
Yeah, I love 'em all.

Wow, was 1989 20 years ago? I guess it was...
Nice bunch of geetars, Kira!

I know, CJ, that gave me pause, too.cjj wrote:Wow, was 1989 20 years ago? I guess it was...
Thanks, the V59 is a May baby, like me. And the other two were born in July. I may have posted them here already, not sure. They are my most valued possessions.cjj wrote:Nice bunch of geetars, Kira!

Re: Commemoration - Your Guitar's Manufacture Anniversary
Sort of a re-post, but...
My December 1972 4001 turns 37 this month.
When I bought her, she looked like this:

I bought the bass from a drug-consuming gentleman in 1988 for $150. It used to belong to Tommy Stinson of The Replacements and can be seen in action on their Saturday Night Live appearance in 1986, often found on YouTube. In 2006 I discovered the RIC forum, leading me to this forum, and lots of good advice...all of which allowed me enough rudimentary know-how to get the bass looking like this all by my clumsy self:

Happy Birthday, Cinderella!
Love, Lyle
