Detached Case Straps

Post by RutleDirk »

I have a standard 360 case, maybe 10 years old, in which each of the lid retainer straps has come unglued on one end. Any suggestions for reattaching them, without drilling holes or tearing things apart too badly? Thanks, either way!

I did this with a case for one of my basses. I just put contact cement on the end of the strap and with a putty knife to slightly push the foam away from the case I shoved the strap back in. While I did this I put the straps in a location that allowed the lid to lean back more than they usually do, ensuring it won't do the usual automatic closing thing while trying to remove or replace the bass in the case. Why can't SKB do this in the first place?

A big baby diaper safety pin worked for me.

I know that there is at least one previous thread on this, but I will repeat my recommendation here.

I use superglue and a plastic disposable knife to push in the strap to where it belongs (after first figuring that out, of course). If one works quickly, this is an easy, fast fix. Plus, it'll be obvious if the repair didn't take, as the strap will not stay in if it's not glued to something.

BTW, I always wear latex or nitrile gloves when doing this, for obvious reasons!

Here's a bit of advice from an earlier thread on this subject:

Thanks, everyone.
Just curious--anyone know what kind of glue the manufacturer uses on these?

Not sure, but the residues I have seen on straps that have pulled out appear to be some sort of hot-melt adhesive.

No wonder they pull out.
