Here's what I've called "the missing link." It's a '62 with the enlarged upper horn of late/current models but all the other features of the early style.

#1,sir! even without niggling about a "real" horseshoe,i would just love to see a reissue of the early design - i really love the look of the original pickguard and smaller bridge footprint, for 2 things....the pg design seems to be more conducive to the cresting wave body shape than the newer "pseudopod" pg.....

After looking at the second picture in Ken's last post, it makes me think that a Rickenbacker bass guitar was the first ever to have a quick-hook type of bridge.

Cool thread ....
Nice bass btw!
Say, you added a toaster neck pup but kept the original volume/tone layout. How's it wired?s4001 wrote:Mine's been thru - well... a lot, but it's still a 4000!

If Mozart were with us today, he'd play a Fireglo 4001C64! ~~~*~~~ Beethoven, on the other hand, would play a Matte Jetglo 4001C64S!
Re: RIckenbacker 4000 picture thread
It's vol/vol. The toggle isn't wired. I used to have it vol/ toggle. It's always had one useless knob.
