It Pays To Be Nice
Given the last thing you think about is payment for your being-nice.
(Just trying to sound smart, you know.)

I gave up all smoking habits 20 years ago as a present to myself, all those around me and all those I care about... lots of money for guitars now! 8)

When I was an infant (less than a year old) in Ethiopia, I contracted some horrendous mysterious disease. The Army doctors at the Post clinic couldn't figure out what it was...they said the symptoms came closest to matching those of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. When it began to look as if I might be 'checking out', they shot me up with penicillin...which, it turned out, I was allergic to...turned bright red, swelled up like a football and quit breathing. Somehow they pulled me through, but I have to steer clear of anything that remotely resembles moldy bread.

Not as stirring a story as young Churchill's, but it does have the feature of being true.

You need to buy them right. Go to Thompson's site and put in 981159 - soon.

Paul, Dalia has great taste in tobacco. I've tried 4 different blends of his and not a clinker yet. Cao Anniversaries have taken a back seat, as have Indian Tabac Camaroons, both still fine smokes.
John, we've got a great tobacconist in our town--Telford's. The guy who runs it really knows his smokes.

Do I have the only wife here on the RRF who enjoys a good cigar now and then?

About three years ago, after about 40 years' indulgence, I stopped smoking a pipe. I also have cut back on cigars about 90%--I might have one every week or two. It's for both money and practical reasons. Whereas, to me, a good cigar has a great scent when it's being smoked (and I do realize that opinions differ on this!), stale tobacco is a smell I don't want in our house or family car. So now I appreciate my occasional cigars that much more.

I'd venture a guess that she's a certain minority.

I've become a seasonal pipe smoker. In the winter I quit. When it warms up enough to spend a pleasant Sunday afternoon or an evening in the middle of the week on the front porch, I'll take my pipe, a good book, or my i-pod and spend some pleasant time by myself.

I'd say you probably do have the only wife who enjoys a fine cigar. Irene tolerates it if I stay outdoors. I smoke on average maybe 2 a month, so I'm no heavy smoker. More in the summer, hardly a one in the winter. I like one while on a stroll at Lake Michigan, or watching a lovely sunset there. Warming in the sun on the deck with my mp3 player is also a relaxing time. Pipe tobacco - I've tried pipes and would smell a very nice tobacco, ask for the brand, but when I would try it the taste never lived up to the smell of the smoke.

I think it's hilarious how a fabricated story about being nice and saving someone ends up being a conversation about cigars. Thanks for clearing up for me Kris. I had no idea what John was talking about. But that is the beauty of this forum. We learn so much from those who care to share. :D

Au contraire, mon fraire...my wife also enjoys an occasional cigar...but she is a drummer, after all.

I awoke at 4:30 am MST with the realization that I had meant to type 'frere'....virally induced fevers always mess with my French spelling.

Pardonnez-moi, mes amis...
