I much prefer the previous version, but both are just to wide to be practical for average sized people. I would use the factory layout with stacked knobs if I wanted to have the same control functions and split the upper and lower necks with ROS instead of the way the factory did it.

Agreed, Dane...the factory 4080/12's 'either/or' controls were a little crazy to deal with live. I used to run it through a Morley stereo volume pedal, so volume control wasn't the big issue, but quick transitions between the necks meant a lot of compromising of tone and pickup balance. Regarding MR's axe: as you pointed out, the wider body might not be an issue for someone who's 6'-4" and has hands like a giant tree-frog, but for the rest of us...

I must say that having the factory model's 12 neck below made for a lot of wrist strain trying to hit that F-sharp barre chord all the way through the 7/8 portion of Cinema Show...

On my custom Ricky doubleneck I put the bass on top since it is my primary instrument, but I wish I'd put the guitar on top. The guitar would have been much easier to play on top and the bass would still be relatively easy to play on the bottom. I wired each two pickup neck with a pickup selector switch and master tone and volume controls and then into a neck selector switch. I have two output jacks, one standard and one stereo that splits the necks into different channels. Better balance was also achieved over the factory piece by having the guitar and bass bridges lined up instead of lining up the end of the fretboard like everyone else does. This made the body smaller and moved the guitar neck rearward, making it a little easier to play.
