Yep, never again will I have to hear the phrase "The freight elevator is broken fellas, you're going to have to carry those amplifiers up the stairs."
-the only times I ever regretted having my 18" Sunn folded horn cabs. Of course the other half of my time these days is spent crawling around on my hands and knees on a oak floor for three or four days at a time, building sails, so I guess it all evens out in the end.

Re: What music/other basses do you play?
My other bass is an old built in Japan Yamaha BB400 from the early 80's. Kinda beat up but has lots of mojo. I've owned a few Fenders over the years but sold them during lean times. The Yamaha has stayed because it has no resale value but I swear it plays and sounds as good as any Fender I've ever had. Of course my main bass now is the 4003s I just picked up. It had been quite awhile since I'd had a Rick and I truly forgot what a joy it is to play. The neck is just perfect and fast. Maybe it's the very slightly shorter scale. With the Yamaha strung with rounds and a new set of GHS flats on the Rick this is all I'll ever need. (famous last words!)
My gigging days are pretty much behind me now but I do jam with a couple of blues bands every once and awhile. Also play reggae, roots rock, classic rock, and some old school punk.

I play mostly classic rock/R&B covers, with the occasional modern rock, modern country and modern Top 40 selection tossed in for variety.
The workhorse for most of this stuff is a brand new 2010 Fender American Deluxe Jazz V loaded with Dean Markley Will Lees. Whenever that "old school" tone is required though, I'll pull out the C64S and/or the Yamaha BB1200. Both of those are loaded with LaBella Deep Talkin' flats.
I've also got a Fender American Vintage Reissue '75 Jazz loaded with ProSteels... just in case!

Re: What music/other basses do you play?
i've whittled my collection down to 4,all of them 4 string fretted basses. 2004 cii strung w/dr sunbeams,74 4000 w/ 60's maxima flatwounds,70's jazz bass pastiche w/dr sunbeams, and lastly my 2000-ish danelectro hodad, strung with dano rw's. i practice with a a 4 peice band 2-3 times a week, most of what we are doing would fall under the classic rock/pop umbrella, with leanings toward more acoustic/folky type arrangements. there are a couple of beatles/mccartney numbers in there (all my loving/and elenor rigby with a very different sound from the original). since we are not a working bar band, we typically get asked to play about 2 hours worth of material, and it is a very occasional type thing. i like to suggest covers of less mega-hit known songs, like "temporary one" by fleetwood mac,"good old days" fastball,"whenevery you're on my mind" marshall crenshaw-"she will have her way" neil finn, which are great songs that people may or may not have heard but usually can appreciate. this is mostly to keep my interest up-whenever some one suggests hotel california i just throw up in my mouth a little bit-not because its not a great song, but really? sorry it seems i got slightly off topic.....

Wow, I feel like I'm doing something forbidden...
Right now my 5-string Alembic Stanley Clarke Signature Standard is my main go-to bass. It's strung E-C, it's short scale, and has "Anniversary" electronics - separate volume and filter controls for each pickup, pickup selector knob, and mono/stereo capability. Despite the active electronics, it strikes me as very warm and clear. Lately I've been using it with a turntablist:
For a while I was using my early-'70s Gibson Les Paul Triumph a lot, but haven't been playing it much lately - it has an annoying buzz at the 5th fret of the A string...
My other go-to is my '76 autumnglo 4001! I tend to play really hard, whether fingers or pick, but I think Rickenbackers respond really well to that!

Liking that woody tone, Harry. My Ken Smith 6-string gets something similar, but being fretless it doesn't quite have the same bite as your Alembic.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

I used to own a 1985 Alembic Series 1 4-string fretless. Man, how I loved that bass. I'm jealous of your Alembic. Tasty.
Man, I love my Ric!

Thanks guys! I actually considered - well, more like fantasized - about getting a Ken Smith. I bet your 6-string is a sweet bass!
Here's another turntablism-video - this time with envelope filter, the new MXR M-82 - I didn't take enough time setting it up, so the effect isn't so pronounced:
Here's the bass track isolated:

Re: What music/other basses do you play?
Sounds great. I just sold my Triple Omega cut Alembic with anniversary signature electronics a while ago. I still have a soft spot for Alembics though. Great basses. I used the funds to buy two Sadowskys. G.A.S. is painful.

Re: What music/other basses do you play?
Hey there folks,
I am new to the sight here also. When I did actively gig I played in a blues-classic rock type band. We did alot of covers and our original stuff sounded like a melding of Led Zeppelin, Cream and Yes. Now I play at my church at least it is a steady gig every Sunday....
My first real bass was/is my Ric 1976 4001 Jetglo. Then I added a Ric 1976 3000 Mapleglo. Then I picked up a really cool 85" Kawai M-II-B it is Koa and Maple. The last is a 2006 CIJ Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass.
The guys in the church band we are leaning to jazz and a Santana latin sound.

Re: What music/other basses do you play?
In addition to my Beatles tribute band I have an original band that sounds like a cross between Joy Division and Syd-era Pink Floyd. I also play in a Rutles tribute band, and another cover band that does a lot of Moody Blues, Jefferson Airplane, Procol Harum, etc. I also play in my church's praise band on Sundays.
