Genesis - The Fountain of Salmacis

Back when music without all the visual add-ons was good enough.

I saw them play this, the first time I saw Genesis, in April 1972.

Lucky you! You got to see first-hand one of the greatest bands of all time. And at the peak (near-peak?) of their career. It must have been terrific seeing Peter and the guys performing that and other arrangements.

I wish I could have been so fortunate - oh well.

Who else was on the show?

Some funk band opened the show, called Sylvester & The Hot Band, then Genesis, and finally It's A Beautiful Day.

It's amazing just where Ricks will show up! I just did a search on youtube for S&THB and look what I see:


This was years after I saw them, when they were still a fairly new band; I don't think their bassist played a Rick at that time since the first time I saw one being used in a show was the bassist in the band that played after them.


I don't remember if they did this song, probably not though, as I would have remembered since this is one of my favorite songs; I did see Procol Harum do it twice, the first time was in 1972.
