Rickenbacker colour names

Post by glking14 »

I've always wondered why Rickenbacker ends their colour names with"glo". Fireburst = Fireglo,Blue = Azureglo.Does anyone know the history or reasons why RIC chose to market their colours like that.

Logic dictates that -glo stands for gloss, but Autumnglo was matte, and its glossy version was called "Walnut" without the -glo suffix.

"glo" is short for "gloss". But, as is usual with RIC, there are exceptions, such as Walnut, which was glossy and Autumnglo which was not...

Edit: looks like Ilan beat me to it by a hair...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

My new band Afterglow just debuted Saturday. 8) Me and my keyboardist are Ric nuts, but we couldn't convince the rest to drop the "w".

Was this ever a confirmed fact or was it just speculation? I've heard people making arguements for both sides. Wouldn't it be more likely to assume that they'd stick with their current naming convention and use Walnut to designate the 'special' matte finish?

And Autumnglo was apparently intended for the Canadian market, for whatever reason.

Well, now we're getting into 50's vs. early 60's vs. mid 60's vs. late 70's Autumnglo.

Thanks for that read. It's just always bothered me because I could never find any markings in the channel to determine what color it was supposed to be.
Plus there was that solid-brown type throwing me off. I thought that was walnut.
