Rickenbacker colour names
I've always wondered why Rickenbacker ends their colour names with"glo". Fireburst = Fireglo,Blue = Azureglo.Does anyone know the history or reasons why RIC chose to market their colours like that.

Re: Rickenbacker colour names
Logic dictates that -glo stands for gloss, but Autumnglo was matte, and its glossy version was called "Walnut" without the -glo suffix.

Re: Rickenbacker colour names
"glo" is short for "gloss". But, as is usual with RIC, there are exceptions, such as Walnut, which was glossy and Autumnglo which was not...

Re: Rickenbacker colour names
My new band Afterglow just debuted Saturday.
Me and my keyboardist are Ric nuts, but we couldn't convince the rest to drop the "w".

Was this ever a confirmed fact or was it just speculation? I've heard people making arguements for both sides. Wouldn't it be more likely to assume that they'd stick with their current naming convention and use Walnut to designate the 'special' matte finish?ilan wrote:Logic dictates that -glo stands for gloss, but Autumnglo was matte, and its glossy version was called "Walnut" without the -glo suffix.

It's a fact. Walnut was glossy, Autumnglo was matte.

And Autumnglo was apparently intended for the Canadian market, for whatever reason.ilan wrote:It's a fact. Walnut was glossy, Autumnglo was matte.

Re: Rickenbacker colour names
Wait, wait... so there were never any Autumnglo Capri's with the same clearcoat they used on the Fireglo ones?
Great Ramp In My Opinion.

Well, now we're getting into 50's vs. early 60's vs. mid 60's vs. late 70's Autumnglo.egosheep wrote:Wait, wait... so there were never any Autumnglo Capri's with the same clearcoat they used on the Fireglo ones?

Thanks for that read. It's just always bothered me because I could never find any markings in the channel to determine what color it was supposed to be.
Plus there was that solid-brown type throwing me off. I thought that was walnut.
