forumites on Skype?

Re: forumites on Skype?
Yep,
I've got it, although I haven't used it in a VERY LONG time.
I even installed it on my new phone, but I haven't tried to use it on the phone.
It is a great way for folks to get together. It does have limitations. Only TWO folks can video chat, kinda stinks when there is a large group on the call. There is another program called Vsee? if I remember correctly that will let you group, video chat.

Yeah, it's called Vsee. My brother told me it worked well for groups, and we were going to try it out. But too much other life has gotten in the way lately to give it a try...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Same here.

Do any of you do any Jamming via Skype or Vsee? If you have DSL is there any latency?

Big time latency! Unfortunatley.larsongs wrote:Do any of you do any Jamming via Skype or Vsee? If you have DSL is there any latency?

I did a skype video jam last weekend. Or at least tried to. There was too much delay for it to work well. The guy with the PC is planning to get a macbook. We think facetime will work better.larsongs wrote:Do any of you do any Jamming via Skype or Vsee? If you have DSL is there any latency?
Re: forumites on Skype?
Internet speed will be more important than what software is being used.
We should have a list of everyones' Skype contact info.

I turned Skype into something I only use at work, so no need to try to call me

I wondered a few years ago if a fiber-optic connection would be quick enough to have international jams as discussed and attempted above.

If you'd have just one wire, no interfaces, switches, routers or computer delays then I think cross atlantic would still give a slight delay?jdogric12 wrote:I wondered a few years ago if a fiber-optic connection would be quick enough to have international jams as discussed and attempted above.

Well, travelling at the speed of light, along the circumference of the earth, a signal would theoretically take 67mS to travel half way around the earth. Now, light doesn't travel at "the speed of light" in an optical fibre, 'cause "the speed of light" we're familiar with is for light travelling in a vacuum.Wildberry wrote:If you'd have just one wire, no interfaces, switches, routers or computer delays then I think cross atlantic would still give a slight delay?jdogric12 wrote:I wondered a few years ago if a fiber-optic connection would be quick enough to have international jams as discussed and attempted above.
In an optical fibre, it travels approximately 35% slower, depending on the optical properties of the fibre (refractive index, etc.). So, the delay would be about 90mS. But then, the fibre probably doesn't take a direct straight-line path around the planet, and of course, there are routers, switches, and all sorts of other electronic devices to add even more latency...

You own a 3-star?jdogric12 wrote:Well smack my *** and call me Ishmael.
Funny is how if there's a delay, someone will answer with a delay, and that's where it becomes messy
