Fits here much better!gibsonlp wrote:Just an idea - perhaps RIC should fulfill MD MID orders ASAP so they won't have time to cancel them?
This will also make the waiting time for a MID 4003 sale shorter
Hi! First post. I bought a Midnight Blue 4003 in the last MF's sale and the original shipping date was 7/12, then it got pushed back to 01/13. I heard someone in the TB forums say that they were able to get a JG instead of waiting for the backordered MB so I called MF and asked them if I could get a MG or FG for the same price as the MB, but my preference would be MG. He was only gone a couple of minutes, but came back and cancelled my MB order and placed an order for a MG at the same price (only $1006.50). Crazy isn't it? Anyway, I got my MG this past Monday. It was made 7/11 and the case and Bass are immaculate. Neck is straight and action is low, and the harmonics are almost perfect from open strings to the highest frets. I had bought a new '76 MG but sold it in '79 for a P Bass (couldn't afford to keep both) so I wanted a MG kinda for nolstagia, but mostly for the 4003 sound. I have a Fender '73 P Bass and a Fender Custom Shop '64 Jazz Relic and 3 Squier Jag P/J Basses but the 4003 sounds so much different and great. I just want to thank the builder of my Bass and the setup person for such a fantastic Bass. I love it! First picture is my friend playing my '76 MG and second is my new MG.gibsonlp wrote:Just an idea - perhaps RIC should fulfill MD MID orders ASAP so they won't have time to cancel them?

The nut has been the same with on 4003's for decades at least, but the neck width at the body is definitely wider than the '88 4003 I had. I too have a Feb.'10 form the sale. The necks might be thinner front to back on an '11, but otherwise they are the same. They're still a lot narrower than a Fender or any of it's clones. I think the only bass that's as narrow is a Gibson Thunderbird.rickyfricky wrote:"Brand new" and made in February 2010. The neck is wider than most of my other Rick basses. Do the 2011's have thinner necks?
Thats pretty cheap for a new one. As far as I know Montezuma Brown is not a regular color.gibsonlp wrote:The deal seems to be over, I was quoted for $1900 or so on a MB

Still hand-profiled right? I ask because my 2010 4003 has a nut width of 1 & 21/32'' (1/32'' smaller than the quoted 1 & 11/16''). I just played a 2011 that felt a whole lot more "normal" so I suspect it was the standard size. The only way I can explain this, considering CNC, is if the necks are hand-profiled after CNC is complete.RIC_FACTORY wrote:Neck CNC spec has been the same since April 2009.
