I stripped it down and a friend of mine did the paintjob. It's not a great job. There are a few runs on it and the paint is cracking. It may be worth while re-refinishing it again.

It did have the two quarter inch jacks for the output, so that should help date it. I think the logo plate was missing when I got it, so I mae a custom brass place to go with the rest of the scheme.

Let me know what you guys think!

Hmmmm. Perhaps a '72 based on headstock shape?

If the pots are original you can date it that way.

I did a quick look and I'm sure those were replaced when I installed the EMG's on it.

Very nice, Randy. Super 4001 you have there. I'm wondering how late in '64 it was made--many of the late '64 Ricks have a darker Fireglow like your bass....

Thanks. I was lucky to get it when I did. Bought it from a guy that lived with my brother. The serial is DK559 and it says it was made in November of 64. You know your stuff!

Welcome Randy...

As John mentions, that's a really cool '64 you have there, and there aren't many deluxe 4001's from this year, so it's a rare bird. I'm guessing it's part of the late batch that seemed to be made with a Dec and DL serial number. Try and find that horseshoe pick up bobbin, as that would really make it cool from an originality standpoint.

I'd agree with JB on the white bass, probably a 72, or a 71 maybe...

Did MD have crushed pearl inlays or poured?

I don't think so, wasn't CP phased out by MC?

So how's the horseshoe pickup on your '64? Still sounding strong?
