Is your fact checker on vacation Paul?bassduke49 wrote:woodyng wrote:This was once owned by Jeff Scott, then the fellow between Jeff and eventually Brian Crisman converted it to the 5-banger. Brian was thinking about making it a 10-string, but decided to sell it off instead.
Actually I bought it from Mark Gilbert. Mark performed the 5 string conversion and sold it to me at the same price I passed it on to you for. I was going to put it back to a 4 string (possibly toyed with 8 string plans as well) and add a wild top veneer but other projects took my attention away so I bailed. BTW Jeff Rath was always the one always craving a 10 string.

OK, eight, ten . . . too many to count. My awkward wording makes it read like you were the one who did the conversion. Forgot Mark Gilbert's name, so I tried to indicate that the "guy" between Jeff and you was the one who did the mod. It's still a beautiful instrument, though, even with the mods.

Re: The Twenty
Yeah, us repeatedly "quoting" previous quotes is starting to obfuscate the message.

D'oh! I should probably stop trying to post from my iPhone while on a rush AND I am barely a high school graduate with a civil service job so I'm sure my mistake comes as no surprise!woodyng wrote:Well, speaking of misinformation,it was not I who made that quote.....![]()
Re: The Twenty
Is this the bigest Rickenbacker basses collection within the RRF?

Re: The Twenty
No.
I know of a couple in Chicagoland who have about the same number (fluctuating all the time, so don't know for sure).
At least one Forumite who doesn't want to be identified shared with me his database from the Register. He has(d) close to 70 Rick basses, and I would imagine many other Rick guitars and other brands of instruments.
Oh, as of 3pm local, I am "The Nineteen."

Re: The Twenty
Wow, hard to pick a winner there!
I'd dearly love a CS, but that blue Cheyenne is absolutely stunning.
Tell me, how do these 4004's sound, are they still classic Ric bass?

Re: The Twenty
From the factory, the 4004's have a meatier, bassier sound since they use humbucking pickups instead of the single coils used on 4003's. The pickups can be rewired with higher value pots and coil taps to get a sound more like the older hi gains, though. It's a relatively inexpensive mod, that is well worth it,imo.
Edit, also,if you want a more traditional RIC sound,it's probably better to get the laredo than the cii,as it is more similar in construction to a 4003.

Re: The Twenty
Nice Paul, my favorite has to be the V63
, joking aside if I can't find a decent CS soon, a V63 is on my list, unless of course a 64/1999 comes up cheap
.
