As much as I'd love to run a full ric-o-sound set up the practicalities of transporting 2 rigs not to mention getting the sound guy to understand it isn't worthwhile in my situation. So I use a version of it where I still send the neck pickup through effects it sounds good through and likewise the bridge pickup and then I recombine the two outputs in a reversal of a splitter and send the one signal to my rig (Marshall Superbass, Mesa-Boogie 2x10.)

So for a quick example, clean neck+chorus or OD on the bridge = no loss of solid lows but still nicely OD'd/chorused. Works a treat but not quite as good or flexible as the real deal.

To the guy askin about bass setups... I've plunked around with running my bridge pickup through my effects pedals, and running the neck pickup clean. I play a lot of 90's alternative stuff and it really gives a huge sound when I turn on the big muff on the bridge pickup and keep the other one clean. I REALLY wanna take the effect channel to my hartke 4x10 (run with a 220 hartke head) and take the clean through my Peavey TNT 150 just to see what would happen.. but it doesn't seem worth it to drag all that gear around lol...

I've been thinking about a setup, do you guys think this would work?

1. Ric-o-sound out of my 4001 bass, into a Y splitter cable , with the bridge output going to a Boss ODB-3 overdrive pedal .

2. The neck output into a chorus pedal, then both into a Boss DD-7 Digital Delay.

3. Both signals out of the delay pedal, into another Y splitter cable in reverse (stereo in, mono out) and onto my amp.

NB. I want the delay pedal in the signal chain because I will soon, hopefully, be teaming up with my drummer friend to do some "Death From Above 1979" type stuff but with a twist (ie, I am not pursueing the same bass sound, just the concept of bass/drums.).
I figure this will allow me scope to control the separation of the overdriven and chorused sounds with my single input amp.

Yes/No?

I've been thinking about this one for a while now. We make our own little version of the ROS box but it always presents a problem. Say you want to use a Janglebox or a Chorus pedal. These can only sit on the mono side, so you would need two pedals. I am trying to develop a box that is a ROS box but... with an effects loop built into it that is switchable to either or both pickups? Has anybody done this already? I just think it would be really useful.

I can almost do that with mine, though it's not an effects loop. I can put a pedal on one of the outputs and switch which pickup, or both go to that output (there's a bit more than just a Rick-O-Sound splitter in mine).

Hmm, adding a switchable effects loop is a good idea. I'll have to think about how that would work...

I'd be curious to hear from any bassists who are using ROS, what gear they're using and what types of music they play. Having just taken delivery of my 4003 today, I plan to experiment with ROS @ home and then try it out on a gig soon.

Also, I only use ROS. Not using it only limits you.

Then again, I don't think of myself as a bassist but, rather, as a bass GUITARIST.

As far as sound men go, couldn't you just explain that you're performing the role of both bassist AND rhythm guitarist?
