The Mustang was used on the Fireball LP. Smoke on the Water (and the rest of Machine Head) was recorded with the Ric before it was modded. Pictures of Home is the neck toaster soloed, not two J pickups.

He used the Rick for Made in Japan through the end of his time with Purple in the 70's. Not sure when he modded it. My guess is sometime in '72.

Yes, similar, but I'd want the usual maple body wings for a finish of my choice. Full width inlays instead of the stars, unless the fingerboard wood of choice looked amazing, then I'd rather have dots, to see more of the wood. The LK did not have the 4003 bridge or keywinds.
I'm also think that a nice dark trans orange would look great on this dream model.

Could be an option. Harder to see the light colored inlays on lighter wood. Now we'd need a new inlay color. Might look too Rickenfaker. I like dark fingerboard woods, always did.
