It looks like Tom Petty plays a 4001C64 FG in Mudcrutch videos like above.
Did he use it on the recordings?

Joey Vasco Signature model dream Rick bass; the 4381JV.

There is no reason to ever be bored.

He used the Rick for Made in Japan through the end of his time with Purple in the 70's. Not sure when he modded it. My guess is sometime in '72.ricnbacker wrote:ilan wrote:The Mustang was used on the Fireball LP. Smoke on the Water (and the rest of Machine Head) was recorded with the Ric before it was modded. +1!paologregorio wrote:Joey Vasco Signature model dream Rick bass; the 4381JV.

That and a 4004jv, which the appointments would be; 4003 body wings, no pickguard, control cavity routed in the back, 3 pickups mounted to the front like a 4004 (extra pickup right before the bridge), checkered binding, one of Eric B's amazing new Fireglo finishes that has the slight amber hue in the center or maybe Montezuma Brown over some pretty wood, standard RIC 4003 tailpiece and standard 4003 keywinds. Available in 4 and 5 string versions as well as fretless of both.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

Great idea! I'd have to buy one!rickenbrother wrote:+1!paologregorio wrote:Joey Vasco Signature model dream Rick bass; the 4381JV.

But...
No Jetglo?????
Hey Tony! I think he's finally coming around! Talking about pretty wood and no mention of Jetglo at all!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Like the McGuinn, Petty and Wilson guitar models, JG is for less figured wood.cjj wrote:But...

BTW, Joey, even I'd take bass playing seriously if the 4004JV was announced! Maybe you could do like McGuinn and do an instructional video
Re: The Signature bass (that never was)
Joey, I would buy one of those in Trans Green, or maybe White Pearl in a heartbeat!rickenbrother wrote:

Sounds almost like a Lemmy without the carvings?...rickenbrother wrote:That and a 4004jv, which the appointments would be; 4003 body wings, no pickguard, control cavity routed in the back, 3 pickups mounted to the front like a 4004 (extra pickup right before the bridge), checkered binding

Re: The Signature bass (that never was)
Yes, similar, but I'd want the usual maple body wings for a finish of my choice. Full width inlays instead of the stars, unless the fingerboard wood of choice looked amazing, then I'd rather have dots, to see more of the wood. The LK did not have the 4003 bridge or keywinds.Fuzzy Thoughts wrote:Sounds almost like a Lemmy without the carvings?...rickenbrother wrote:That and a 4004jv, which the appointments would be; 4003 body wings, no pickguard, control cavity routed in the back, 3 pickups mounted to the front like a 4004 (extra pickup right before the bridge), checkered binding
I'm also think that a nice dark trans orange would look great on this dream model.

Re: The Signature bass (that never was)
Yeah, I have to agree on the dots vs. triangle inlays. I love the inlays, but on pretty wood, dots show more.
Ooh, here's a thought. How about putting a flamed maple board on that 4004JV?

Nah, too Hobbit looking, takes away the RIC vibe.jps wrote:Or. no dots at all.cjj wrote:Yeah, I have to agree on the dots vs. triangle inlays. I love the inlays, but on pretty wood, dots show more.
Could be an option. Harder to see the light colored inlays on lighter wood. Now we'd need a new inlay color. Might look too Rickenfaker. I like dark fingerboard woods, always did.cjj wrote:Yeah, I have to agree on the dots vs. triangle inlays. I love the inlays, but on pretty wood, dots show more.
