I don't know where you're located but here in the UK there is an E-Bay seller who's always advertising Chrome or polished Stainless Steel pickguards for the Ric 4001/4003.

They look pretty nice, I think they are about £ 30.00

Not something I would go for personally as I think the stock white guards look the best! 8)

Hi, I live in on the US north west cost. I saw those and almost went for it but... the pickup is in the wrong place for this bass.

If you do fond one, you'll need to make the radius that hugs the front lower corner of the bridge pickup surround smaller to match the early surrounds. Also, many of the early surrounds have a short front flange, whereas the C64 surround has a long front flange.

Your right Dane. Thanks for confirming that. Pickguardian could be the answer here then...

My opinion is Mapleglo makes an excellent base coat for a Jetglo refinish, topped off with Clear, silver back painted guards. . . ;)
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

yup
a email has been sent...

Basically I decided that even though black or silver would look awesome I'd have to get a different TRC because I think they should match... and paying for a 80's + one for a 74 just seems a little silly...

So white under clear, rounded edges is what I think I am going for. Thanks for the replies guys it really was helpful.

Pearl, greyish or black would give it some classy texture. Could you get a metal guard that is yellow [like brass, except aluminum] ??

The black/MG combination is indeed great. However, I'm not crazy about the idea of a black pickguard combined with a white TRC (which I assume is what you have now). So unless you're prepared to fork out for a black TRC, I'd be inclined to stay with a white pickguard.

EDIT: Never mind, I just read your upthread post and see that you reached this conclusion already. So carry on.

You bet.

Guard is ordered, I love dealing with the Pickguardian :D This will be the forth guard he has made me.

I need to get a pickup cover and knobs [some one removed the silver parts..] as well.

My personal fav color combo. Pretty much holding out here for MapleGlo w/ black pickguard and truss cover (which is the tough bit sadly)

Send your truss rod cover and $50.00 to RIC and you can exchange it for a black & chrome 4004 style truss rod cover.
