I must say that Fireglo is my least favorite of the Ric colors although I do like it more than your standard sunburst. But I was able to add my 2012 Fireglo last month and I have to say that it a beautiful bass. Fireglo is by far the most gorgeous color. It looks totally different in person. My 17 year son said the same thing. He saw it and was blown away....he said he did not expect it to look so pretty. And in addition to it being so beautiful.....mine sounds the best of all three of my new 4003's.
Here is my 2012...just to tide you over....

Thanks Scott(Armybass) mine should be here tomorrow or Tuesday. Now that I'm gonna have two 4003s I think I might put flats on one. Did you put flats on one of yours and if so what kind and how did it work out. Again thanks.

Scott, I did. I put a set of LaBella flatwounds on my Fireglo and it sounds amazing. I have Rotosounds on my JG and DR's on my MG. Every time I bring two Rics to a gig people always tell me how pretty they both are and how great the FG sounds.... I never really thought a Ric as a flatwound bass but oh how wrong I was. In addition to the great McCartney type tone, the bass really punches through strong and solid with flats on it. I am in love with my FG Ric with LaBellas. I want to get another 4003 to put TI Jazz Flats on too! :D

I've had (and have) flats on a few different Rick basses, and also on my 330 guitar. It is amazing how many people think flats are only for a dull thuddy kind of tone. :!: Not so, at all. 8)

Colors such as Fireglo, Midnight Blue, Ruby, and others are hard to depict well in photos, they really need to be seen in the wood, so to speak, to see how wonderful they are.

Thanks I really appreciate the advice. Funny I have Rotosounds on my 4003 Jetglo and my 62 reissue jazz bass so I think that would be a good addition to put flats on the Fireglo. Hate to be a pain but last thing and I know u guys talk a lot about string tension but if I put flats on. Apparently they are higher tension so will I have to make any adjustments?? I,m not sure if I'm in the right section of this forum to ask so sorry if I'm not.

Just because the strings are flatwound does not necessarily mean they are higher in tension. It all depends on the particular string set, how they are made, what gauge, they are, type of core wire, etc.

Scott I highly recommend the LaBella 760 FL's..... the Flat Lights. They are the perfect tension for the Ric I think. I would not use anything heavier than that. They even make a set lighter that I have heard folks here like too. The TI Jazz Flats might be even be too light, but they are fantastic strings.
