I concur. I'm much more of a player than a collector, and I definitely prefer my 4003 to my 4001c64.

It seems to me that the c64 does what it does very well and will be collectable eventually, but I find the 4003 to be a much more versatile instrument.
There are a few of us who appreciate the 4004 as well as the 4003, if not more. I look forward to any more possible changes to the appointments of the 4003, maybe even the 4004 as well. It could be that someday the 4003 has full width sparkly inlays. If that happens, I'll be looking to buy one if my funds allow me to.
My V63 satisfies my desire for a vintage style 4001S.
And believe me, I'd have a great appreciation for a 4004 if I owned one! From playing your 4004s, Joey, I must say that they are very nice basses. I hope to own one eventually. I'm not sure which I'd rather have first, a 4004 or a 4003fl. I've been itching to play fretless again.
2010 4003 FG
1997 4003FL Turquoise
Set neck 4001S (color TBD)
