How much mass would that body have? Anything less than the current 4xxx solid bodies could adversely affect tonal quality in the deep tones.

A Höfner Beatle or Club bass has much less mass and they both have plenty of bottom end.

Nothing beats a Gibson Thunderbird in this category :D

Also, when I'm playing, I tend to use both hands, so it isn't usually a problem.

Can we stop talking about this bass now, because I want one, and RIC aren't making them.

Dammit.

This idea looks amazing, I really like the 4003 style headstock with the 650 pickguard.

I agree a good idea would be for it to be a completely different thing to the 4003's configuration. Definitely hi-gains but maybe at a different position? Maybe a 32 scale with 24 frets so that it's not a 30 but you also don't have to extend the body shape.

Anyways, going to the neck-dive issue, it can be improved a lot by changing the strap button to were Flying V's have it, were the neck and body meet, obviously on the body side. This way you don't have to worry that much about the horn being short. There are many basses around that don't have standard horns and balance ok.

Nice idea!!

I've never been a fan of the cresting wave top horn on the 600 series models, but it goes well with the 400X headstock. It's a cool project.

I have to compliment you on your creative fusion of elements of two different Ricks that fit nicely together visually! :D

If I had a 600 series guitar, the temptation to get out a saw and sander, and trim the top horn to resemble a 325 or 350 would overwhelm me. . .

Moving the strap button closer to the center of gravity does NOT help with balance. Ever played a Gibson Thunderbird? The further away from the center of gravity you move the neck side strap button, the better a bass will balance.

I may have commented before, but I'll repeat anyway: great looking project. The only concern I have is whether the upper horn and/or the weight of the tuners would cause the project to neck dive? I can see it for a 30-inch scale very well, indeed.

You can tell by 12th fret position that the scale has been changed for this pic. This is definitely the most "production" looking version of this idea though. I'm certain neck dive would be an issue, but unlike my Gibson Blackbird, there is no place to rest your forearm to counteract that. Never the less, I think it'd be a great idea for a short scale bass. I also think it should have a cresting wave headstock.
