I could validate JH’s statement regarding the cost of the changing hue paint. A division within the company I work for produces that stuff and I believe you’re looking at a couple of $K per gallon. Interesting but expensive!

Hey Chris – did John mention who got it right?!

Cheers!

Yeah Chris, did John H. mention if the 2005 colour was mentioned in the "Colour of the year" thread in the "Rickenbacker General" section?

When I was having my '65 4005 restored, i almost had it shot with that "hue changing paint"! I thought that the large body would look cool with it. However the restoration went downhill before it got to that stage. John Hall was gracious enough to make repairs to the bass and shoot in in Blue Boy. :-)

The flip flop color is probably the hardest color to apply to a guitar with a hand held spray system
I've always been a traditionalist, I like the standard time proven colors: Fireglo, Sunburst, Black, Etc. As for cost, this is the most expensive lacquer around. I won't spray this stuff because of various complications. The slightest run or thickness flaw and it looks really bad, but then IMO in looks bad on a guitar anyway.
