Sascha, you are completely incorrect - there was no such thing as a white 330 S LE! I will obviously have to correct you for the record as I feel you have you have been very rude and direct on that point and of course I am offended by thatThe guitar you refer to was a Pearl White 1997 LE and that is how the factory recorded it during production - see cavity shot below from one of my guitars. Now I've said that, I feel much so much better for correcting a fellow European.

Closing a general thread should be a rare event. To keep threads open when rules are not followed can be a slippery slope that can require forum or membership edits which should be a last resort. It is entirely possible to be critical of any topic in a respectful way all the while falling completely within the rules. It does require more thought, however.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I'm going to say once again some folks have confused this board as being a company operated entity. It is not nor do we have any control with what's posted here, how it's edited, or any of the operations.
Bottom line, I don't have to be here. I take the time to answer questions and offer opinions or suggestions as a personal matter. At the risk of sounding insulting to the membership here, I also have to say that any marketing or research benefit from doing so is close to nil, as our market caters to a much wider world where there's a wider range of opinions and preferences.
With regard to the English-American comments, as cliché as it might sound, probably 2/3rds of my very closest friends are British of all flavors and I've been called an Anglophile more than once. My observation merely was that while we use the same words, they have different shades of meaning or implications which may have unintended consequences.

John, I thank you for your comments, it is a pleasure having you here. There have been numerous misconceptions sorted out as a result of your comments over the years. Long may your participation continue. While my contribution to RIC profits has been small, I have enjoyed every dollar spent on Rickenbackers.

I hope that's how my comments came across too, because that's also what I have experienced and hoped to convey with my story. In addition I have found that working in the field of basic science research you always meet people from other countries than your own and everyone quickly learns not to be sheepish about geopolitics. We all make fun of each others' respective birthplaces where I work, it's just a way to pass the time honestly. Believe it or not the country that gets hit hardest is probably Canada, maybe because they're the least deserving of any ire on our parts or maybe because our token Canadian doesn't put up much of a fight.johnhall wrote:With regard to the English-American comments, as cliché as it might sound, probably 2/3rds of my very closest friends are British of all flavors and I've been called an Anglophile more than once. Peter, I'm pleased to see that you operate a "freedom of speech" policy on this forum.
As a basschat forum member, when I dared to voice my support for John Hall's position and criticise the basschat mods for their 11 email answer to a 2 email problem, they responded by openly slagging me off and locking the thread.

The fact that you had no mandate to get involved with any negotiations with Mr Hall, seems to be lost on you. Your actions could have had very negative implications for the owners of BC, no matter how good your intentions.cloudburst wrote:Peter, I'm pleased to see that you operate a "freedom of speech" policy on this forum.

Rather than bore the members of RR with any more of this cross forum tosh, if you have a gripe, leave it on Basschat and PM me.
Peter
Many thanks to you and the RR team for your patience with this debate. It was started by a joint member on here and Basschat though, and to be fair George is a top guy, he was just doing what he thought best, and you can't fault anybody for that.
On Basschat, we've made our decision, which I think was fair, and as far as we are concerned, that's the end of it.
Quite enjoying this forum, even managed to post a few pics of my 4003.
Who me.............I'm not afraid to die, I just don't want to be around when it happens baby.

In Flanders (that's on the old continent - you may want to know that when you read this, for interpretation's sake) we call this "a storm in a glass of water"
Nevertheless there's some things that fascinate me.
First of all, I can't imagine the CEO of RIC having too much time on his hands, surfing the net, looking for fake Rickenbackers.
There must be some sort of Geheime RIC Polizei that reports these to the RIC CEO.
Snitching is to be frowned upon where I live. And should so be everywhere.
Then there is the huge effort done to get rid of the ad fgs.
With CEO's investing time, lawyers threathening etc.. this could easily cost 10 times or more the value of the copy.
What's with that?
Still the copy exists, and is even probably still for sale too.
Worse even, that Chinese factory is still spitting them out, as I seem to find these in most of the guitarshops around here. Ha, is that snitching now?
I can totally understand RIC defending (or trying to) their patents, copyrights, trademarks etc.. but this seems like creating a supernova to get to that mosquito, and it's a male specimen.

Re: Banning of Rickenbacker on basschat uk
Yeah, all of the fakes, etc. still exist.
The reason for going after these is that for the holder of a trademark to maintain that trademark, they are required by law to "go after" all infringements. Failure to do so will result in a loss of the trademark...

If that's the case, really, they lost the trademark long ago.cjj wrote:Yeah, all of the fakes, etc. still exist.

A random search on a random 2nd hand ad site will generate dozens of hits on rickenfakers.
As I said, they're all over the guitarshops as well.
