Temporary Cap bypass

Post by loverickbass »

Anybody have a suggestion on how to bypass the cap on a 4001 without breaking the original solder joints? I want to keep my '73 as close to original as possible but I also want to see what it sounds like without the cap in the treble pickup. Any ideas?

Easy, just jumper it with a piece of wire. You can solder the wire to either side of the cap or temporoarily wrap it and crimp it down without soldering.

Jeff,

I got her "laid" open on the operation table right now. I'm going to do the surgery in the next day or so, I will let you know. Thanks!

Jeff,

I just did it and let me tell 'ya, what a difference! It feels like I have a new bass.

I went to the local radio shack and got some micro gator clips and made me a little jumper wire to go on either side of the cap. Works great, didn't mess with the solder joints and can be reversed in an instant.

That's what I did to first hear the difference, I jumpered the cap with alligator clips. Then I made a pickguard with a switch to choose either setting, but I have gone back to the original pickguard with the cap bypassed.
