FG 4001 Checkerboard binding

Post by lowendbob »

I just spotted this at Instrument Exchange. They have it listed at a 73 4001S. No bids and ends tomorrow. I just sent an email asking if they will take $750. I think it's a Guitar Center listing.

If they only have a $1000.00 start off bid at instrument exchange it must really be a ratty bass, their prices have consistantly been ridiculous.

Nothing a Doc Dolan re-finish, and maybe a refret wouldn't cure ...

Go for it Jim! Of course me, I'd leave it as it is....but then I do love a beat up bass, as long as its only cosmetic of course.

Yea, go for it Jim. I sent them an email about 10 hours ago and still have not heard anything.
I'm no longer interested.

B.I.N. for $2100...Usual Instrument Exchange madness. Even for a grand I,d want to look closely at the neck for issues. This bass is a player so it needs to be straight in that department.
If someone wants a cool checkerboard bass at present then buy Henny,s 72 Burgandyglo. A little more expensive but far better value for money in every aspect...

I'd go for either, but at the moment Ric-O-Vouchers are in short supply, the 73 is very close to my original 4001. The Burgandy is lovely ...

If I was going to buy a 73, I would want to make sure it had full width inlays and a split tailpiece. Neither of which this particular bass has. They are out there, but hard to come by.

This bass has a serial number of MF2300 which makes it late June 73, making it a real transition piece. Probably one of the last with checkered binding.

Very nice, (MGxxxx = 73/July) but it doesn't have full width inlays or a split tailpiece. Another 73 transisition bass and the v63 Horseshoe looks great!
Ya just gotta love Fireglo when it transitions from yellow/orange to red.

Totally outrageous.

Actually, that's a good thing!

*reminds himself that auction ends on Thursday*
