New pickguard shape? NO MORE DOUBLE-HUMP!

Post by ilan »

I'm looking at this pic of a new 4003S and another pic of a new MG in another forum, and it looks like RIC has returned to the mid-70's pickguard shape - sharper corners and no double-hump.

I have been waiting for this for so many years, since they started to gradually correct little imperfections. Fat horns returned to skinny, walnut headstock wings, full-width inlays, and now the more elegant mid-70's pickguard shape.

Now it's perfect.

That's my girl when I first opened it up at my Rick dealer when it arrived. I swapped out that pick guard for a vintage style with a hump in it from pickguardian.

Why would you opt to have the double hump..aka "double muffin top" guard?

Possibly because that is the standard vintage style Pickguardian offers. The two Tony made for me were done custom for me. He had the bass in hand (I dropped it off to him while in Columbus) and we discussed this to make the pickguards look as desired.

Obligatory photos of the great pickguards (and plexi finger rest) Tony made.

I like those, no humping, and the plexi finger rest is a nice touch, I was not aware Pickguardian offered a finger rest...

IMO the latest contouring is, if anything, too skinny. YMMV.

C64's don't have the double hump feature. This was only found on '97-2015 4003's.

I've always liked the way you and Tony did that JG 4003 bass. Looks good, Jeff.

I think I must've missed the thread on that one, but I was thinking the same thing Cap't Bob said, very nice!
