New pickguard shape? NO MORE DOUBLE-HUMP!
I'm looking at this pic of a new 4003S and another pic of a new MG in another forum, and it looks like RIC has returned to the mid-70's pickguard shape - sharper corners and no double-hump.
I have been waiting for this for so many years, since they started to gradually correct little imperfections. Fat horns returned to skinny, walnut headstock wings, full-width inlays, and now the more elegant mid-70's pickguard shape.
Now it's perfect.

That's my girl when I first opened it up at my Rick dealer when it arrived. I swapped out that pick guard for a vintage style with a hump in it from pickguardian.

Why would you opt to have the double hump..aka "double muffin top" guard?bassman4001 wrote: I swapped out that pick guard for a vintage style with a hump in it from pickguardian.

Possibly because that is the standard vintage style Pickguardian offers. The two Tony made for me were done custom for me. He had the bass in hand (I dropped it off to him while in Columbus) and we discussed this to make the pickguards look as desired.aceonbass wrote:Why would you opt to have the double hump..aka "double muffin top" guard?bassman4001 wrote: I swapped out that pick guard for a vintage style with a hump in it from pickguardian.
Obligatory photos of the great pickguards (and plexi finger rest) Tony made.

I like those, no humping, and the plexi finger rest is a nice touch, I was not aware Pickguardian offered a finger rest...jps wrote:Possibly because that is the standard vintage style Pickguardian offers. IMO the latest contouring is, if anything, too skinny. YMMV.ilan wrote:I'm looking at this pic of a new 4003S and another pic of a new MG in another forum, and it looks like RIC has returned to the mid-70's pickguard shape - sharper corners and no double-hump.

I did it to match my c64s. Plus I kinda like it...
Re: New pickguard shape? NO MORE DOUBLE-HUMP!
C64's don't have the double hump feature. This was only found on '97-2015 4003's.bassman4001 wrote:I did it to match my c64s. Plus I kinda like it...

I've always liked the way you and Tony did that JG 4003 bass. Looks good, Jeff.
