Man, I would really like to try one of these. But, lefty specimens don't come around very often.

I'll post some photos at the weekend.

It took a used, modified 4004 with some special circumstances to bring me into the fold but I must say it is every bit the answer to Fender that people asked for (most of them without any intention to actually support such a product). I wish the 4004 would take on a handful more fun iterations in the RIC lineup. Only thing I remain on the fence about is the neck pickup rout, which on my bass was filled in by the 2nd owner and covered up.
My good forum friend Dan R. had a really rough time with these basses... Wish I could let him try mine some day.

Some of us even have more than one...jps wrote:Oh, there's quite a few of us around.bigandyh wrote:Thank goodness I found someone else who has a 4004
Maybe just not on your side of the pond.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I've now installed one of Dane's harnesses to provide a blend control rather than the mini-slector, and coil taps on each pup. Looks nice with the addition of three new gold/ebony knobs from Q-Parts. Some shots:

Re: 4004 delivery today!
Does the blend pot have a smaller diameter shaft to fit in the switch hole without enlarging it?Ashgray wrote:I've now installed one of Dane's harnesses to provide a blend control rather than the mini-slector

Re: 4004 delivery today!
No Jeff, I needed to enlarge the hole to 3/8" to get the shaft through.

Re: 4004 delivery today!
Thanks for the info, Ash.
If I were to do a VVT, or a VPT to my Snowglo 4004 I do not want to enlarge the switch hole, so I will have to research what may be out there in Potsville®. Maybe Hawaii or Colombia.................

Re: 4004 delivery today!
Yeah, I know what you mean. I've kept the old harness and am really pleased with the new one, but it's a pretty irreversable mod once the switch hole is drilled out.jps wrote:Thanks for the info, Ash.

Re: 4004 delivery today!
There currently is no one making a quality blend pot with a 1/4" bushing diameter and a solid shaft. I use to use Alpha push-pull pots, which had a 1/4" bushing, but the Bourns pots I use, which have a 3/8" bushing, are of better quality.jps wrote:If I were to do a VVT, or a VPT to my Snowglo 4004 I do not want to enlarge the switch hole, so I will have to research what may be out there in Potsville®. Re: 4004 delivery today!
IS there anyone making a quality volume pot in 1/4" to make a VVT harness?
Re: 4004 delivery today!
Just drill it!!!!jps wrote:IS there anyone making a quality volume pot in 1/4" to make a VVT harness?
Re: 4004 delivery today!
Great looking bass, the q-parts knobs look fab, too. I have 4 of them on my similar-color scheme Fernandes Gravity 8-string bass....Ashgray wrote:I've now installed one of Dane's harnesses to provide a blend control rather than the mini-slector, and coil taps on each pup.
