The bass is a fake because:
1-The rosewood fingerboard used on the Japanese fakers is usually darker than the real thing.
2-The triangle inlays have larger particles and more contrasting grains than the real thing...more like conventional shell inlay materials.
3-The neck heel shows it's a bolt-on neck.
4-The surrounding top edges of the bass pickup is narrower than the real thing. In fact, a fake bass pickup is slightly smaller in dimensions than the real thing. Same thing with a fake treble pickup and its surround.
5-The 4 holes in the tailpiece are rounder than those on the real thing. Typical on fake tailpieces.
6-The headstock of a fake 4001 is usually wider than the real thing.

Janis got the "Tanakabacker" TRC on it because she knew it was a fake anyway. She knew very well not to mess with a real Rick.Image

The strap buttons location on the body wing is typical of a fake and the overall shape of the body as Paul said the fingerboards were never that dark.

I know! I'm an Emma Peel fanatic!

Can you imagine a picture of Emma with a RIC bass? That's what came to mind when I saw that picture ;-)

Oh, and I guess Happy 1000th post to me!! (Thanks for the great place Peter!)

We may have to check the records, Peter.....but I think John MAY be the only member here who has used Emma Peel in their 1000th post...

Congrats, John Image
