Was a 'real' one of these ever made?
My dream instrument would be a double neck 4003 fretted & fretless....jg or mg....

Hi Sean, Nice one. I just wondered if a double neck bass + bass has ever been made?

Officially no.

But various luthiers over the UK have produced a doubleneck 4/8 4000-alike bass.

There's been a few on eBay now over the years.

This one weighs in at 14lbs. They are cool to look at but not something you want to play all night.

ROFL...Yeah,so does my ego :-).That's pretty wild.
Who and what is that? The center neck reminds me of a Carl Thomson bass.Unique.

That is Chris Squire. The instrument is his custom tripleneck that I think was originally made by Wal. I could be wrong on that though. Guys, help me out. I think the current version is an exact copy that was made for him in Japan. The original has become wall art (no pun intended) in a Hard Rock Cafe somewhere.

The Wal orginal is framed at Hard Rock, as Ted has said.

The original was made by Wal for Roger Newell in the mid '70s. I saw Roger play it a couple times With Rick Wakeman.

Weird animal. At least the body is contoured to make playing each neck more comfortable and accessable.

I've never held a 4080 but I imagine it's a bugger trying to play the bottom neck.

You have to strap it up fairly high. This is another thing that makes it uncomfortable to play very long.

Bugger has a lot of meanings, apparently. Simply saying bugger has quite a different meaning from being ********. Or so I am told. :-)
