I just picked up a '75 White 4001. A friend of mine set it up for me as best he can (or how he likes it).
I'm a Fender guy for last 25 years but a project I am in now requires a Rick sound (all the recordings were done with a 73 Ric) & I am quite liking it to be honest.
My bass has a bow in the neck (raises up again towards the heel / neck join) Gets a bit buzzy if you play A & E string from 12th fret up. I've also noticed that they have strung the A,D & G strings by passing them under the bridge at the back instead of through the provided bridge holes. I assume they did this to sharpen the angle on the string at the saddles. Is this a normal practice? Should I send the bass to a luthier that knows Rics for a proper overhaul. Also the tuners have non original (flat head) screws & washers instead of the Philips type. Can the correct type be sourced?
I'm new to Ricks. Loved playing with a Fuzz pedal strumming chords up the neck ala Dinosaur Jnr.
