The Searchers Perform at the Mohegan Sun Casino Part Three: When I Get Home by Paul R. Gedney |
I spoke with Dom Forte, who is the go-between for the U.S. and U.K., and he was a bit angry that the Searchers don't do enough for their American fans. Okay, this is true, but think about what it costs them to come over here and set up an itinery of travel and hotels and places to play, and if they can't get a big hall and fill it, then they lose money. I would hope the guys can keep coming here every 2 years or so and not forget us completely. I don't know what the folks on the west coast can do, unless the band can come across from the far east and add dates to that leg of a tour. Or, try to attach themselves to a big tour that is traveling nationwide here. But this will cut into the U.K. dates, where the band plays a huge number of shows each year (I can hear Wendy Burton crying "no" from here), so as you can see, it's a dilemma that really needs to be looked at. As we were chatting, the woman (her name escapes me now) who booked the guys for the shows introduced herself and said the boys would be driven to Atlantic City on Saturday, which is a long drive on a holiday weekend, for a 7:00 PM sound check, then the show would commence at 10:00 PM, and then the guys could relax Sunday until their flight home at 7:00 PM Sunday evening (too bad they couldn't stay an extra day or so, New York is celebrating the 4th on a large scale, it would be nice for the guys to see).
As for me, I got in the car a bit before 11:00 PM and headed home...with a big smile on my face.
Keep searchin'!
