Re: Suspicious looking bass

Those inlays don't look at all right to me, not even close; there doesn't seem to be enough "sparkle", they end too far from the edge of the fretboard, and the shape of that last inlay doesn't seem triangular enough. I remember Pete Townshend bashing Ricks, but not necessarily Jeff R.; although Jeff did drill holes in them, which certainly invites controversy.

Re: Faker???

I thought exactly the same thing when I saw it, even checked here and was surprised nobody had commented on it yet. The pictures are pretty useless; for all I know it's a bolt-on!

The scam was in Scotland...this one is listed in Rockport, TX, which isn't too far from me.

Hey Pete--I came in second on the Entwistle bass at the Sotheby's auction--or at least the selling price was just barely above the maximum I permitted to the Sotheby agent. My max bid was around $6k, which now seems absurdly low given what LK's and 4005's are going for. Ah, the ones that got away.

Okay, we did our Capitol rotunda gig. No sign of the Governor but interesting acoustics. The rotunda is not that large across, but it goes 290 feet straight up, meaning it is like playing inside a smokestack. John Bonham would have been jealous. When we would stop playing, the roar would continue ...

I still have instruments I bought 30 years ago. They are now worth quite a bit more than I paid for them. The amps I bought 30 years ago are probably in a landfill. Thus, I would always prefer a quality instrument.

Of course, post this on an Ampeg board and see what response you get. But I got ...

Hey guys, I am apparently playing the Capitol Rotunda for the legislature on April 5th during the lunch hour, in honor of Navasota Blues Festival day or something along those lines. Obviously Rick Perry would want me to play a Rick, but which color?

So, I guess it stems from a little too much Saffron?

Certainly is intriguing; you just have to wonder why this thing ended up this way. What would possess someone to remove every electronic bit from a Ric and leave the rest intact?

The listing does say it CAN be played....although it doesn't say anything about whether it actually plays okay. I just ...
