Re: When did McCartney sand off the points on the "horns?"

The original sanding was to remove the trippy psych paint job from '67 (times had changed). I am sure that this was only the front of the body that was done. This would have left him with a 'natural' finish on the front with the original '65 Fireglo everywhere else.

He obviously decided to make the ...

Re: Another Hall of Shame item

Love it. Really smart use of Jazz pickups and solves the problem of the 'gaping hole' very neatly. I would be very interested to hear how it sounds.

A really imaginative mod.

The lyrics to Eleanor Rigby were very much 'brainstormed' and depending which account you read, that line was one of Lennon's.
So you would have to move that one tentatively over to your 'Things I don't like about Lennon' pile.

Re: How to file a new saddle

I fitted 4 new saddles a few months ago. Functioning perfectly well without cutting any grooves.

Re: Wobbly Saddle Problem

To the OP - you're in the UK and it's a 2010 model. Any warranty on this? You probably paid anything between £1500 and £1800 and you have to fiddle about with shims of brass, aluminium, wax paper.....?

It's defective, send it back.

Re: A question about the "Live @ Star Club" recording

You could describe them as 'just on the cusp' at that Hamburg performance. They had released Love Me Do a few months earlier in the UK and it achieved a modest chart placing. It would have been completely unknown outside of the UK at that time (as were The Beatles themselves). The Hamburg gigs would ...

Re: Tuner Bushings

...and 4 days later a small packet arrives, thrust bearing, Schaller sticker and a packet of assorted Schaller plectrums.

And it is the very one, the exact bushing for a Rickenbacker, perfect fit.

Great guys.

Vielen Danke Schaller.

Re: Tuner Bushings

Being Scottish, I was never likely to be cheering England on too much in the World Cup, even less so the Germans, but Come On Deutschland!!

Received an email from Schaller requesting a photo and dimensions of the bushing in question, couple of days later another email requesting my address and now ...

Re: Do you think Ric should introduce a budget range bass?

Maybe this isn't appropriate to this discussion, but I have found that my blood pressure remains lower when I recognize that there are some questions that aren't worth trying to answer.

The question is, "Do you think.....", so a thread which seeks opinions is somehow not worth trying to answer ...

Re: Tuner Bushings

Nice detailed website. I have dropped them a message enquiring about Rickenbacker bass 'Thrust Bearings' as they only seem to show the types that fit just about everything else.. not the Rickenbacker dimensions.

Re: Do you think Ric should introduce a budget range bass?

I'm interested as to how you came to the conclusion I didn't own a Ric.

I am not alone in refusing to pay the ridiculous premium for a 'Made in USA' sticker.

That's what made me think you didn't own a Rick Mr.Bailler

Read the posts. My 'Made in USA' sticker moan refers to Fenders (of which ...

Re: Tuner Bushings

I'd try calling RIC customer service. Kenny might be able to help.

Ah, but I'm afraid Ric Customer Service are a long way away from us poor UK dwellers. I won't trouble them (they are probably a bit busy fighting against a backlog of orders).

Thanks for the Schaller info, I am checking their ...

Tuner Bushings

I've been looking for a while now, and can't get hold of a single tuner bushing for a Sept '97 4003.

Who actually made the tuners then (Schaller, Grover??) and are they the same or similar to today's models? I can't seem to find any bushing spares available anywhere (on the internet) for these ...

Re: Do you think Ric should introduce a budget range bass?

If you "cant" afford a Rick, then you obviously don't want it bad enough.

That's true, but I would never want a luxury 'bad enough' in front of all of life's other essential spending commitments.

Something tells me that not only does SamBailler not live in the U.S., but that he doesn't even own ...

Re: Do you think Ric should introduce a budget range bass?

The "Made In USA" sticker is not what makes a Rick expensive, it's the fact that they're unique, quality instruments designed and built here by other Americans making a reasonable living wage. I take this into account when buying anything brand new. Now I wouldn't expect any of that to matter that ...
