To add to what others have said: for years, people have been complaining about him. In most instances, people came to us with rumors and stories but no proof. In my world, we don't work on rumors. Almost every time I asked someone "If you've been ripped off, have you notified the police?" No one did ...

If you look closely at photos from the period, you'll see no AC100s anywhere after 1965. (This does not mean they didn't exist, but with several other amps out and in use - not likely). Certainly we see Paul with the Bassman being used in 1965 (and AC100 Bass earlier that year). There is little ...

Note that towels on the drumheads are not always seen, but date back to the earlier records; Norman Smith did it now and then, usually on snare. They used all kinds of drum muffling and dampening - sweaters, felt strips, indian blankets, Fender polish cloths, cig packs, the cover from the piano, etc ...

Note that people have long figured out that Paul treated the Hofner(s) as his "live bass", in concept as well as reality. Note he brings out the Hofner again for some late videos and the "live performance stuff" if Let It Be (even though he was using other basses by that point, and less and less of ...

Tape machines are CHEAP now. You can buy PRO machines, not just Fostex and Tascam, in your range. I've seen MCI and Scully 1" 8-tracks out there - the kind of stuff Beach Boys and Beatles would have used for major albums.

I bought TWO 3M 24-track machines for $1000 each. Studers are always more ...

Hard to believe, but many (most) people who worked at Abbey Road rarely went into the chambers ever. They weren't allowed to mess with them, and there was a danger you could screw up the setup, so they didn't go in. (Unlike today - one of the first things I did when visiting there was go in to see ...

I can't tell what session it is, but John is shown with his a few times during the Sgt Pepper sessions.

The publisher. Apple does not allow EMI to do "Beatles" things anymore, so EMI no longer is connected to that book. Hamlin put it out, and never updated it. They also re-released it without advance notice, as far as I know.

Hmmm... hey wait! Just because someone pops up with a list does not mean the list is accurate!!

I have to question where this list came from, as there are VERY VERY few instrument lists from Beatles sessions. I have never seen this before, has anyone else?

I know several people who were in the ...

BTW - Chamber 3 (rarely heard back in the 60s) is likely the great reverb on "Goldfinger"!!

I think it's also possibly "Do You Want to Know a Secret", and likely to be the reverb used on 'Sea of Holes' and 'Sea of Time' from the ORIGINAL "Yellow Submarine" record.

The answer is tricky - pick your favorite below:

A) They were "high enough".

B) They didn't have roofs.

C) Sound goes AROUND, it doesn't go UP and DOWN, this is why you have two speakers - on the Left and Right. Therefore the height of the chambers doesn't matter.

D) Chamber 1 (used with ...

Ethan - that is funny!

One of the former Abbey Road engineers said he got the book and began reading it in the hallway near the mailbox. An hour and a half later, his wife came and said "Don't you want to go and SIT DOWN somewhere?!"

As the unusual 'Let It Be' mics are only used for a very ...

Wolfgang -

Note that they probably didn't always want stronger phasing, they often used it very subtly. Total cancellation WAS possible at any time, but note that they often kept phasing to just a few tracks (almost never the whole mix, like Itchycoo Park). Total cancellation does happen, in fact ...

As someone who has spent a ton of time studying their studio habits, I would say it's only safe to say one thing: "We don't know". (Repeat!)

It's almost as hard as saying "What did they have for lunch?" It's almost never documented and people there don't remember. So we end up guessing (with some ...
