Re: SLOPPY WORK NEW 4003

If your expectation from this thread was to try and get some help you have simply done it wrong. In the corporate world - employees are instructed to put their feelings aside if possible or to transfer a customer to another employee if they must. Rickenbacker is a small company with actual people w...

Re: SLOPPY WORK NEW 4003

I guess I'm from a different planet or something, I don't know, but if this was my bass, if I heard the crackling noise, If I opened it up and saw the issue, I'd have said something like "hmm, I bet that's what's causing it", I'd have fixed it, patted myself on the back, chuckled a bit, a...

I have one as well, though mine is a bit shorter than a bass. :)

I wonder, was the body binding just painted over? It dosen't seem to have the round over on the bass side that "S" basses usually have.

Re: Strange 481 on eBay

Interesting mod, but the unique pickups and the phase switch are part of what make the 481 worth having imo. Otherwise it's just a 480 with weird frets.

Re: This does not look correct!

But not if they are installed in the wrong model. Take Dana's advice here. Besides, there is no bearing surface for the acorn nuts of the new-style rods to anchor to on the 4001. I think it's clear what he meant to say was that the old system works just as well as the new system when maintained pro...

Re: Music Rooms & Playing Areas - Show Yours!

That 330F is gorgeous, Chris. My office has changed a bit, but not much. I built some shelves in the closet and have been storing most of my effects, cables, etc. in there. I had to make my own right-angle speaker cable to put the cab against the wall, because apparently no one makes a premade right...

Re: Photographs of the 480 Series

Stewart Macdonaled recently posted an interesting video with Erick Coleman repairing a troubled 480 that has suffered some fretboard seperation and truss rod abuse.

I know this is the photography forum but this thread has become the de-facto home for 480/1 guitars.

As a matter of fact I have seen one before, I had a photo of it but I can't find it now. I'll look for it some more.

Re: Under consideration,your opinions welcome.

Making a profit because you got a deal the first time around is secondary to the modification aspect. That was not my intention ever. If i were to do the mod,it's because I want the bass to be that way for ME. I just wouldn't want to "ruin" the instrument,so to speak, for resale. (Or for t...

Re: Under consideration,your opinions welcome.

This is the only bass forum I'm on where collectors matter. I've modded MANY a RIC that increased in value. Then again, the buyers were not on this forum. I'll bet Chris Squire's, Lemmy's, and Geddy's Ricks increased in value. Oh, wait a minute, only for COLLECTORS. I'm sure Geddy Lee's bass increa...

Screamin' deals not-with-standing, i've never seen a Rick go up in value post-op. Making a profit because you got a deal the first time around is secondary to the modification aspect.

Re: Under consideration,your opinions welcome.

Permanent modifications of any kind will be detrimental to the resale value, period. If that's not a concern to you (and you've accepted that you'll never get back the money you put into it) then go for it, it's your bass.

Re: Chinese Ricks for 300 dollars, Are pickups successful ?

The threat to all the American guitar manufacturers is that they ARE marginally playable, some with decent fit and finish, and that situation is only going to get worse as the Chinese get better at ripping off trademarked design with CNC repeatability and an increasingly sophisticated and demanding...
