Re: Best bang for the buck?

I second the vote on Avatar cabinets. I use their 2x10 and it's plenty loud and punchy , and easily managable to cart around. People who swear by 15's for bass are impressed by it. I'm not fond of carting around heavy all-in-one combo amps, and I also really like having the option of being louder th...

Re: Close to the Edge

The fantastic thing about the Yessongs version is that it's played at a rather energetic brisk tempo , as opposed to the languid "Keys to Ascension" version which is apparently due to a band member who wanted it slowed down (who??)

Re: Rare Photo - McCartney Plays 4001S

I wonder how Paul managed to nick a chunk off the lower bout of his pickguard as shown in the photos....it's a fairly flexible piece of material, and it's in such an odd spot-- how in the heck could that have happened? A too-tightened screw? I can understand the tip of a TRC getting caught on someth...

Re: Led Zep

I seem to recall Page also slammed his finger in a train door and was put out of commission for awhile in the 70's. He seems to have bad luck with this sort of thing, for a guitarist. Didn't he play on Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From My Friends", the tune with the Beatles ...

Re: YES 40th Anniversary Tour 2008

YES are in a very unique position, IMO, with fourteen past and current members all still with us and still applying their trade (to some degree). Wouldn't it be great if this time, they pulled off a real "Union" CD with actual and not replacement musicians? As much as that idea sounds coo...

Re: Ron Nasty

>Funniest line-"Shocked......and stunned" After Lennon's death, George Harrison issued a statement saying, "After all we went through, I had and still have great love and respect for him. I am shocked and stunned. To rob life is the ultimate robbery." I'm puzzled as to why he'd u...

Re: Ron Nasty

It seems like there's one Beatle who didn't much care for the Rutles: "Ringo Starr liked the happier scenes in the film but the scenes that mimicked the sadder times in the band career he felt were too close to home. John Lennon loved the film so much that he refused to return the video tape an...

Carol Kaye may have played on some of these, usually using a fender with flats played with a pick. She did a lot of TV themes and incidental music...I'm pretty sure she did MASH. "Taxi" theme is a song called 'Angela' by Bob James, playing the Rhodes. Another great one is both versions of ...

Squire's RM1999 neck was shaved down even further than its original specs plus it's had rotosounds on for 40 years. Yet other 4001 basses from the same era (Entwistle's) and later have been ruined by roundwounds. If a 4003 neck is stronger due to laminates and better truss rods, possibly 'overengine...

Thanks for the link, Elys! I was able to click the ">>5mins" button several times while listening in real time and it took me right to "Lucky Seven" playing and then the interview. Good anecdotes in it! I wish Chris wasn't interrupted as much, though. Peter did somewhat suddenly ...

I wonder, what version those SD Tele bass pickups are in that bass- vintage, hot, or Quarter Pound version? I once had the quarter pound single coil version in the bridge position of my 4001 briefly, and it was a good solid- sounding pickup.

wikipedia sez: "It is commonly believed that Harrison's inspiration for "Something" was his wife at the time, Pattie Boyd. However, Harrison himself later denied this, saying that "Everybody presumed I wrote ["Something"] about Pattie, but actually when I wrote it I was...
