Re: 1960 4000 replica
Some interesting comments and questions. Here are my thoughts. Nice Jake. How does it sound? It's remarkably clear and responsive to differences in technique and attack. It seems to really excel on some of the more rhythmic lines I play -- you can really hear each individual note. Erik, that's prett...

1960 4000 replica
Hey everyone -- been away for a while, got a lot going on (including a new EP we're recording right now), and all's well. A couple months ago, I received a bass that Larry Davis had been working on for me for a while, and I think it's well worth sharing. We started with a 4003s from the late 80s tha...

Re: Ric Undergoes Major Mod
Eh, this mod doesn't bother me all that much. I think the white PG looks goofy with all the black hardware, actually. If he's going to play it and it works for him, it's far from the worst mod of a Rick we've seen. If he decides to sell it, well, then someone else can pick up a cheap 4003s for one o...

Re: Ric Sighting......in a Aussie band
I was listening to them on the way in to work this morning. Their original bassist mainly played a 4001, but the new bassist (as of some time last year, on the new album) is a Fender Jazz guy. They both sound pretty great, and the newer album is solid if you like hard rock that's not afraid to aim f...

Re: Filing newer bridge to fit old tailpiece
Hmmm.... will a modern TP require you drill the extra holes or will it be strong enough to work with just the three screws under the bridge holding them in place without substantial tail-lift (as per the vintage gap-tooth TP)? :? That's a good question. It used to have a 5-screw tp but I'm guessing...

Re: Filing newer bridge to fit old tailpiece
Thanks for the thoughts, all. If we're thinking of the same person who was making replica bridges, I thought I was in on that order, but haven't heard anything in months. Did anyone actually get one? For the time being I have a later tailpiece/bridge combo on the way ... it will look a little out of...

Re: What music/other basses do you play?
Hey this is an interesting catagory, everyone has a semi-main instrument and then some others to compliment their interests. It is insightful to see how different folks can use the qualities of a particular instrument to express their music. I am now a two bass guy, I have played a 69 Gibson EB3 fo...

Re: Scammer collecting real serials?
If there was a company that could make perfect copies, would coming up with a legit-looking serial number be the one thing they'd mess up?jdogric12 wrote: Serious question - Paul, are there really exact copies out there I am unaware of? Re: cross post re: scam question
It's possible he's just an exceedingly paranoid/compulsive buyer. I mean, if he's local and knows Rickenbackers, presumably he can spot a faker in person when he checks it out.
Of course, he fails one of my prime transaction rules -- don't buy from or sell to a jerk. Not worth it.

Re: Filing newer bridge to fit old tailpiece
Yes, I'd much rather mod the bridge (replaceable for ~$60) than the gap tailpiece (if you can find one, several hundred dollars). I also don't have much in the way of tools, or a place to work -- a file (and elbow grease) is about all I have to work with.

Filing newer bridge to fit old tailpiece
I'm dying to play my '72 4001 with my band, but I currently have a newer style bridge with an original split-tooth tailpiece. Because the newer bridge is a bit wider than the cutout on the tailpiece (i.e., early 70s bridges were skinnier), the bridge sits up on one of the edges, and the action's pre...

Now for sale in the For Sale section. I know there are a few people looking for one of these, but I don't know who asked first and wouldn't want to guess!

Re: Do you think Ric should introduce a budget range bass?
Maybe this isn't appropriate to this discussion, but I have found that my blood pressure remains lower when I recognize that there are some questions that aren't worth trying to answer. The question is, "Do you think.....", so a thread which seeks opinions is somehow not worth trying to a...

Maybe this isn't appropriate to this discussion, but I have found that my blood pressure remains lower when I recognize that there are some questions that aren't worth trying to answer. What I mean is, RIC has no interest in introducing a budget range bass. I think they've been pretty clear about th...

Re: Got myself a 3000
There are a ton of pics in my new photobucket album -- I just haven't had a chance to resize them for the forum yet. It looks like the CV was removed from the fretboard; you can see some remnants along the side of the board. Other than that, it's in pretty good shape, actually. I can't put in the NO...
