Dale, great question. My '58 365, serial # 2V128 has four metal grommets. I've personally never seen another one with metal grommets. I can send you pics, if you'd like. You know, back then it could've had 2 rubber grommets, one metal and a booger and it might've been "factory". Lol.

Thanks John, I think I'll go with 4 metal ones.

You know what a booger is in England, don't you?

I was referring to the American version. Less invasive.

In the UK, it's spelled and pronounced "bugger". It means something totally different, as you already possibly know.

Not in the biblical sense, of course.

Don't ask me how I know.

No Paul, I wasn't referring to a person who gets on ones nerves(bugger) but the smelly old fashioned "Booger"

I get it now, Dale. My mind was in the gutter, as usual.

From Jwilli's comment, so was 'is.

Ted: The inlay material on your 4001 is probably the closest relative to what is being used today for inlay on contemporary Rickenbackers....the older material seems to have more white in it than the light-gray....

Late last year I finished customizing a '74 350, part of which was crushed pearl inlays. After an exhaustive search for a reasonable approximation, including some custom-made material involving pearl dust, we ended up using "Sparkle MOP" from Rescue Pearl. While in a side-by-side comparison with the real stuff, it's not a direct copy, but it looks very close once finished. If anyone's interested, I can post pics of the finished guitar (they were posted on this board by the owner late last year), as well as of the material.
